Like most i'd keep Gueye. Think time is up for Coleman and Young.

Keane's wages are too high to be 4th choice centre back. You'd hope he'd want to play football somewhere else.

I can see Moyes wanting to keep Doucoure but I'd like to see us move on from him.

Would also be good to keep Begovic and promote Tyrer assuming Virginia leaves.

Definitely Gueye, as I don’t see us buying all the players we need. The test can go as they shouldn’t be getting mins, Coleman can go within the club somewhere but should in no way be getting a playing contract.

Depends on conditions..

Wouldn't be averse to extending all of the above.
Coleman - player/coach/talisman/leader
Gueye - happy for another year - limited 1st team starter (10-15 starts)
Keane - reduced wages - ideally 1 year - limited sub apps, starter very limited
Young - further reduced wages - limited sub apps
Doucoure - reduced wages - limited 1st team starter

All pretty good eggs I reckon (dressing room and don't rock the boat) and all do a decent job in limited circumstances.

Needs must in transition IMO.

Depends if they accept. Yes. Ok. No. No worries.

….dreadful transition management has left us in a right mess, probably 8 regular starters out of contract next season. It really is fortunate we’ve got ourselves out of trouble because it would’ve been an even bigger catastrophe had we gone down.

It might be more a case of us having to offer new deals to certain players just to ensure we have squad numbers next season.

I’m sure most would like to see the back of Michael Keane but a contract extension might be necessary given the numbers we have to get in with limited spend. Our loan deals have been generally very poor and Alcaraz is probably the only one to consider making permanent.

Gueye is the obvious extension but 6 with regular midfield starters out of contract this summer, Armstrong’s emergence will help.

Moyes and his team have been left with a huge challenge this summer.

Incredibly poor take with no semblence of reality.

How anyone can see the dross in the squad being worth keeping is anyones guess.

If he was able to sell them, Thelwell would have done so -- he has been fantastic on sales and getting dross out of the squad.

I do agree that "Moyes and his team have been left with a huge challenge this summer".

Hes made a handful of good signings in over a decade. Absolutely frightening.

….he’s currently potting plants in his greenhouse for a reason

You just need to get over being very wrong, if he’s so good he’d be busy researching global football markets. It’ll be interesting what his next job is given his predecessor is now President of PSV ;)

But I am not wrong. Not by a LONG way.

Thelwell has been the best DOF the club has ever had.

Thats a fact.

….getting back to the thread, given Tarkowski’s and doubts about Branthwaite’s future, his best piece of transition management was the signing of Jake O’Brien. I praised Thelwell for it at the time, if I remember rightly you called O’Brien a dud and said it was nothing do do with Thelwell.

Transition management is key. I think you’re a little confused as It doesn’t mean renewing deals for players you don’t want to keep, it means having a plan to gradually replace them. If you fail to do that you can find yourself in an almighty mess.

Anyway, he’s hopefully gone now, pointless discussion.

You dont think O'Brien was a dud under the previous manager? Quite a peculiar take.

"Transition management" is not exactly the first priority of a team having to sell to buy every summer. Having said that, the high value sales made by the DOF did enable the club to bring in young players who have seen every one of their values increase...

...with the possible exception of Beto who has so many caveats to his deal its unreal.

The frightening thing about this summer is that were seeing links to some interesting young players like Neil, Rigg, Cherki and Doak.

Yet are also linked with Longstaff, Coufal and Soucek.

Seeing as Moyes has had an extremely poor run of signings overall in the past decade....its very concerning if he has any say in signings.

He intimated that Thelwell brought in Alcaraz and it wasnt his choice at all. Additionally hes referenced Ndiaye being the best attacker today and concerned when he was injured.

The man seems to prefer to use Harrison & Doucoure...as well as donkey crock Broja rather than the talented players who are actually under contract.

…ok, Zat.
