ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

The way Rodgers has handled the Balotelli situation is terrible. He practically hung him out to dry after 6 games when he was overly critical of some lacklustre performances. He's using him as a scapegoat and a shield to hide behind Liverpool fans who are sussing him out.

Superb.
Add to the fact that Rodgers had no idea how to use him properly. Mario is best when he gets service, and I don't mean 40 yard balls over the top for him to try and run on to. Additionally he's best used as the second of two forwards but Brentanningbed is asking him to play the lone striker role. No wonder he doesn't look arsed.

At the moment, La Liga is far better than the Premier League. It's cyclical of course, and won't last forever.

It will be a fairly long cycle, though. Most of the Spanish league has been forced into the position where the only way to survive and remain in the league is to develop their own players, buy cheaply and effectively where possible and sell at a profit to richer, more daft clubs. Atletico did that for three or four years and they won the league and came within a whisker of winning the CL; having five or six clubs do it at once will probably mean they continue to win European competitions for some time yet.

Sam Allardyce........

"“There are two types of coaches. There’s coaches like me who weigh up the opposition and ask the team to adjust. Fergie was similar. Jose [Mourinho] is similar. Then there’s Arsène, who won’t adjust. There’s Brendan [Rodgers], who looks like he won’t adjust. There’s Manuel Pellegrini, who looks like he won’t adjust, even in the Champions League. He seems to favour what he’s got. City are quite open.
“Their [Wenger/Rodgers/Pellegrini’s] philosophy is different to ours. Ours is more about who are we playing against. Their philosophy is more, ‘We always play this way’, and they won’t change, they carry doing on the same thing. That’s why you can beat them."

Alas, I have a feeling Bobby is the latter category.

I think the risk/reward dynamics of the pragmatism vs idealism equation have been well inculcated in Martinez during his (thus far) short tenure-ship at EFC. ; and his managerial skills will only continue to improve as consequence

To paraphrase Darwin : 'adapt, or die'

In an nutshell yeah.
For all that Bobby is seen by the media as always wanting to dominate possession and play the Barcelona way, the reality can be in many ways quite different.
He does want us to be comfortable on the ball.
But he is capable of changing and adapting the way we play to benefit us against our opponents. Be it by using Lukaku on a wing as an outlet for cross-field balls to cut in, like vs. Arsenal, or the way he set us up to counterattack on several occasions, or even how we sat back against Lille, there is an underlying pragmatism which is there/has been developed.

hull are a decent team you know, they need to start winning as well, think iv'e seen just under 7/1 for them to win, it's very good odds again i feel
Gone for a narrow home win on Predictor - head overrules heart - but have this voice in my head telling me Bruce had words with Sammi Allardici the other day and the Master Tactician told him how to put one over Brendan Clough's Liberpool.. Could be a tasty price.

they don't have a top four , they have a top two/three (athelico madrid's choice)

Yeah, because anyone could win the Premier League this season. Sevilla won the Europa League last season, Madrid won the Champions League having played Atletico in the final. There's plenty of strong teams in La Liga, most of whom would destroy their equivalents in the Premier League. Real and Barcelona are just abnormally good and make it look a lot easier than it would be for Chelsea or Manchester City.

I'd disagree here. Look how we set out against Arsenal and Liverpool this season (albeit the former we fell to pieces in the last 15). I think we play our way against the teams we should beat and setup to attack in a different against those who offer more of a challenge.
