Scathing article by James Pearce in today's 'Anfield Bugle'. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-fc-blood-red-more-7996821
Rips Lovren to bits and includes this nugget from Rodgers ....
“Dejan is very commanding,” Rodgers said during the tour of America when news of the deal was confirmed.
He’s a front foot defender, he’s not a waiter. He’s aggressive, he goes and attacks the ball. We conceded a lot of poor goals due to bad individual mistakes last season. That is something that Dejan’s leadership can certainly help us with.”
Pearce then goes on to shred Lovren....
So far it hasn’t happened. The early signs were promising as he capped an accomplished debut in the friendly win over Borussia Dortmund with a thumping header but since then it’s been all downhill. Rather than taking control, Lovren has been rash and careless. Rather than settling Liverpool down, his errors are creating uncertainty and anxiety at the back, His distribution and decision-making has been alarming.
He’s been unable to strike up any kind of rapport with Martin Skrtel, whose own form has dipped. Part of the Reds’ weakness from set-pieces is both centre-backs’ obsession with grappling with opponents rather than concentrating on the ball. .....

They've been getting away with that even when Carragher was playing...and rarely punished by a pen. Be interesting to see if Rodgers pulls him at his post match press call.

Probably not then.

:)

I do take your point, though.....taking a picture of Messi or Ronaldo or players of that stature when they are playing on your team's pitch is a natural enough thing to do.

Like during the warm up or if he was out on the touchline near where you were sitting or sommat.

It is the sight of all those Kopites reacting to Ronaldo celebrating his goal by whipping the camera out and taking pictures at that point which I find bizarre.

Who does that?

:pint2:

Tourists mate

I'd disagree here. Look how we set out against Arsenal and Liverpool this season (albeit the former we fell to pieces in the last 15). I think we play our way against the teams we should beat and setup to attack in a different against those who offer more of a challenge.

Yes, thinking about it again Bobby does tailor the tactics to suit the opposition.

The United home game last year for example, when he conceded the midfield in the first half and picked them off on the counter.

X
I must have been watching a different game to the two numbnuts commentating ! The fella was up against the combined talents of Distin and Hibbert and hardly did a tap apart from a few mindless runs! I couldn't work out if they were trying to wind Lfc fans up or genuinly thought he was a world beater !

It was bizarre wasn't it.

Gone for a narrow home win on Predictor - head overrules heart - but have this voice in my head telling me Bruce had words with Sammi Allardici the other day and the Master Tactician told him how to put one over Brendan Clough's Liberpool.. Could be a tasty price.

i really like the look of some of these hull players, they are dangerous in attack. shane long has always caused liverpool problems because he's a great player, abel hernandez has settled quickly and is especially good in the air, something liverpool struggle against. diame showing again why he should be a player playing for a top team.

they've just had problems killing teams off - thrown away so many points.

Hull transferred Shane Long to Southampton and bought Hernandez. Hull will give the RS problems today, Bruce sets them up to counter attack and uses the pace of El Mohamady on the right and the young Scot Robertson on the left (who is out injured). Hernandez has banged in a few goals and is also fast. Diame will boss the centre of the park with Livermore and Huddlestone, if fit.

Hull City line-up: Jakupovic; Chester, Bruce, Davies; Elmohamady, Livermore, Huddlestone, Diame, Brady; Ben Arfa, Hernandez.

Subs: Watson (GK), McShane, Rosenior, Quinn, Ramirez, Aluko, Meyler.

MARIO Balotelli is so out of form it's now a joke and Hull City will be hoping he plays against them today, writes Dean Windass.

Liverpool v Hull City team news and preview

I don't know him as a person so I won't judge him on that, but I can judge him as a player and if he does play this afternoon, I don't think any of the City defenders will be too bothered.

At the minute, he isn't making the runs you want him to and his passing the other night in the 3-0 defeat by Real Madrid was poor.

I'll be honest and say I wasn't a massive fan of Balotelli before this week, but to see him swapping shirts with Pepe at half-time walking down the tunnel was a disgrace.

If I had been Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, I would have told him to go into Real Madrid's changing rooms and ask for his shirt back.

As it turned out, Rodgers took him off at the interval after another poor showing where he seemed determined to walk around muttering things under his breath.

If I was a psychiatrist, I'd want to spend an hour with Rodgers trying to figure out why he thought he could work with a player who is so self-obsessed.

He's more concerned about his hair styles and his messages under his shirts than the rest of the team.

Balotelli was effectively told when he signed for the Reds that this was his last chance after being moved on from several other clubs.

I'm actually surprised Steven Gerrard didn't have a go at him on the pitch, which he was entitled to do. Maybe he did it in the changing room.

Liverpool have always been a team that works hard for each other, but that's not the case now with him.

The rest of the team need him to put a shift in but he's too lazy to do that. I blame Rodgers for sticking by him and consistently playing him.

And I feel sorry for Rickie Lambert, who has to sit on the bench and watch the Italian sulk and strop his way around the pitch.

I'm sure Lambert will feature against the Tigers today, but that shouldn't worry Steve Bruce too much either.

While he has a much better attitude than Balotelli, he is not a Premier League striker. Lambert is a Championship player at best because he is not quick enough to be a top striker in the top league.

Okay, he had a great season last year for Southampton because he comes alive when the ball comes into the box. But Liverpool's style is different to how Saints played.

But after waiting for his opportunity at Anfield, today might be the start of his time leading the line.

As for Balotelli, his time at Liverpool is probably coming to an end, but someone will give him a chance.

Rodgers took a chance on him but the gamble hasn't worked out either for the player or the club.

Regardless of who plays up front for Liverpool, I believe City can go to Anfield and come away with a draw like they did at Arsenal last weekend. Hopefully, if they get in a position to win they will not throw it away.
