This is Anfield website running a story about Preston Fans being 'Chuffed to bits' about Ben Davies joining Liverpool.

How insecure do you have to be to write toe-curling comments like that about a journeyman CB?

They might be Covid19 champions, but their fans still have the Roy Evans era loser stink about them.

RS mate said it is £2.5m for the loan deal with the option to buy for £27.5m. supposedly he has the potential to be a top, top centre - half. :hayee:

30m quid seems very excessive from what I've seen this season. He can barely get a game for one of the worst sides in Bundesliga history. Whenhe has played, he's been attrocious. When Bayern beat them 8-0 he was shocking.

Had a look at his record this season. Played 13, lost 10, drawn 2 won 1. World class that.

See a few pundits on sky telling me they watched Ben Davis alot(yeah sure you have) and he clearly the stand out player of the championship.
The amount of rubbish they come up with is unreal

They've obviously never watched him. The stats show he's a bang average championship defender. Hes 26 soon, thats his level. I mean in fairness it's probably a level above a lot of their other defenders who are playing, but he's a below average to average style championship defender.

I did a series on championship defenders at the start of summer who we could target. Suffice to say this lad didn't even enter my thoughts.

He has started every game he’s been available to play.

But yes, he has struggled, in a poor team.

He showed what he is about more in Stuttgart, only time will tell if he fulfills this potential.

Easy decision for Liverpool though, pay a loan fee, get a good look at him, if they like him, they pay for him, if not, send him back and move on. What’s not to like about a deal like this.

Yes thats a pretty fair summary.

I would be amazed if they pay £27m for him in the summer, based on what I've seen of him. I haven't watched him every week, but when I have, he's looked horrendous.

As you say though, maybe a change of enviroment helps them. They can have a look so it's a win win (unless there is an obligation to buy).

Why do you think Shclke have allowed him to leave and be replaced my Mustafi? Is the 2-3m loan fee worth it? How much trouble are they in financially? And if Your guys miss out on CL, do you expect some pressure financially?

Bit odd signing a 20 year old centre back on loan isn't it? Signing 2 would suggest matip is out for a long time...

One red texted me to say September. I find it hard to believe as he kept playing for a period.

Signing 2, suggests to me that there is no good news on Gomes, Van Dijk or Matip though.

Having 3 players out for 6 months brings a lot of risks. See Oxlade Chamberlain, Bolasie, Gbamin etc.

For their sake, I hope Kabak and Davies the manc aren't the replacements.

I think the fee is £18 mill going on reports on Twitter, not 100% sure on that though. Maybe it’s 18 plus add ons.

Schalke are in a very bad way financially yes, they where anyway, and now lack of revenue because of Covid is killing them.

Why they let him go, I would guess that yes, the loan fee will help, but also they will hope that it will be worth it long term for the investment in the summer if they buy. Also, he is pretty unhappy there I think, maybe they just think it’s better for them as a team and him as a player to seperate now.
