ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

VVD is the wrong side of 30, he's a big man so more weight on his knee and has had one of the worst injuries a footballer can get.
He's not coming back anywhere near as good as he was, he'll be off next January (when they realize he can't cope physically anymore) to Ajax or another good team in a poor league, that will be his level upon return.
He's 29. I think this is wishful thinking on your part unfortunately. He is the best CB on the planet there is no question of that and even if he comes back at 80% his best level his is still a top CB. He will be determined to play for the dutch at the euros so will probably cripple himself again.

Apologies it was Fabrizio who said 30m option with 2.5m down. He tends to be the best sourced. As always there will be some milestones between 18-30m. Seems very high to me either way

don’t get your logic, they will decide based on performance and market in summer, if it’s value and he is decent they buy, if he is rubbish they don’t

He really isnt. They have been playing kids and out of position donkeys recently and keep a lot of clean sheets, its their system that is very good NOT van dyke

WHen he was playing, most of the goals they conceded were his fault.

I think it's quite straightforward mate. 27m option seems high. 1.5-2m down on top of wages isnt cheap either, but I suppose it's a reflection of how late into the window it is.

If they want to keep him, I wouldnt be surprised if they let the option slip and try and get him around the 10m mark, which seems a bit fairer.

If he comes back at 80%, hes probably a passable PL CB, no more.

If hes lost his pace and ability to turn, it will have a big impact.

I have to say, I'm also not sure about this best CB on the planet guff. They dont given the runaround for 7 goals by Ollie Watkins. Hes very good, but the best? I'm not so sure on that.

Oh and by the time hes back he will be 30. A terrible age to be trying to recover from a serious injury, especially for a player who relied on his pace a lot.

I can't think of anyone better right over the past 3 seasons. I haven't seen the goals from that game to be fair. Seemed a bit of a freak result like.
