VAR marginal offside in general is entirely farcical by its premise. We don’t have the tech to capture the exact frame of image at the exact moment the ball contact finishes. So it quite regularly gets things wrong, my biggest irk in football alongside the redundant nature of deciding added time.

The people using and communicating this tech don’t understand it - hence awful decisions like this. I still stick with the idea that 13 year old gamers would do a 1000% better job at the remote work

exactly, is it/should it be the start of the contact with the ball or the end of the contact of the kicking the ball? there could be 1/5th to 1/3rd second between those two points, indistinguishable to the camera, captured on a number of frames, but in the mean time, the attacking player could move from anon side to an offside position. What do you want to prove? pick your start point and bingo, fixing is fixed.

Its probably the RS Special Dispensation Committee (Stockley Park, affiliated) and their fresh rule that if the whole foot toe to heel is offside, then the goal stands.

There’s some BS on the bbc site (sorry if it’s been posted above) about giving 5 cms leeway owing to the inaccuracies of the technology. It’s estimated to apparently add 20 goals a season. Ridiculous now making excuses for bogus decisions. Still mad about betos disallowed effort last year at Southampton

It confirms the PL is bent. No one but no one gets that decision except them, truly awful.
You could see even without the lines on the pitch, but the cut of the grass confirmed it. No need for Mickey Mouse cartoons to make it look like he was onside.

I for one am shocked that a system that allows the refs to not show an actual picture but an animated one is going to be used to give dodgy offside calls for the big clubs.

Dermot won’t - they will churn out this 5cm benefit of doubt bollox and move on, so this farce and circus can continue.

I’d say that was a “German foot” Offside mate.

It’s bollox - just look at the penalty spot in relation to each players feet, never mind the lines in the grass.

They further muddy the waters every week with alterations and amendments to rules - it's just professional match fixing to make the product more money.

People still not having that match fixing and corruption is occurring, even after evidence is smashing us around the temples such as this, proper baffles me.
