ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Football has its poison everywhere. Foreign leagues are rife with organised match fixing, the premier league is rife with corrupt refereeing, fixture list manipulation, and doping.

Frankly wherever major money flows then corruption and cheating will follow it. Fine if people accept it but it’s just ridiculous that we’re now at a point when there’s barely a side in Europe who could give City or Liverpool a game in a CL two leg tie. None would start as favourite. Bayern Chelsea PSG Madrid you might hope could maybe match them but anyone else you’d be looking at a heavy defeat by multiple goals unless Pep has thrown one of his crazy formations out again. Liverpool could probably beat the majority of the CL knockout teams with their B team, and people think this is completely normal,

5 years ago it was Barca and Real who hammered everyone though. It'll always be someone.

Chelsea/City/Liverpool/Bayern all well capable of winning it though. PSG or Real could maybe.

Barca haven’t won the CL since 2015. They haven’t been past a semi final since then. Their only real period of dominance in it came under Guardiola.

Madrid have clearly been the form team in it. That said though I don’t remember them going to difficult away grounds and mullering teams by 4 or 5 goals. It more seemed to be that they had generational talents in Ramos Modric Kroos Benzema Ronaldo all in the one team and won some key ties by big moments. The fact that they only won their own title once in this period against a weak Barcelona and a strong Ateltico Madrid shows they weren’t invincible, just a team who could adapt very well to hanging on in the CL over two legs.

I don’t see generational talents in the City or Liverpool teams. Salah is obviously looking good at the moment, Van Dijk was a decent player, De Bruyne is a world class midfielder etc. but that Madrid team had down its spine players who might get into all time 11s from football history.

Didn't Liverpool get stuffed at Real Madrid last season in the quarters? Knocked out to Atletico the year before after losing over there in the last 16? Even the year they won it they lost their 3 away games in the group.

You make out like they just go out and hammer everyone.

They were cycling off last season hence why they lost 6 at home in a row (even against us!). As soon as they flicked the switch they’ve lost once in 30 games since I think. Madrid got them just at the right time in that lull. That won’t happen this season as they’re back mid cycle now.

That Atletico game was a freak. There was one of Europe’s top teams and Liverpool ran over them at Anfield like they were a pub team. Their dominance was absolutely unbelievable, Atletico couldn’t get out. They got saved by Oblak so many times and Liverpool eventually succumbed to a few counters as they got ragged chasing the game. That game could have been 5-0 to Liverpool in the first half though, never seen anything like it. Completely unnatural.

Inter can do these.
I agree.

I watched the Milan derby a few weeks back and they were completely dominant. They have some VERY good players like Martinez, Correa, Barella, Dumfries and Perisic, and the GK is decent.

Game on there, I think.

Of course, they get handed an away leg first.

Away leg 1st for finishing top of the table as far as I know Dave.
Oh, didn't know that. If it wasn't that system they'd have handed it to them anyway.

Let's hope they get stung on the break at Anfield.

They were through easily enough with that first draw. I think then getting Inter will unsettle them.

The draw is an absolute joke

Pot 1, pot 2, pot 3, pot 4,

Pot 1 can't face pot 4 if they've been in the same group. Pot 3 can't look at pot 2 if pot 4 knows that pot 1 has come from the same country. Pot 4 won't face pot 3 and pot 1 cos 3 + 1 = 4 so 4 has to face pot 2

An absolute shambles of a draw, CL my arse

The whole tournament is a circus.

I'd have been chuffed last season if they'd have all frigged off to that Euro Scab League. I was gutted they backed down.
