Ebola? Who Cares?? It's all about MERS now.

bit of a game changer, it's acceptable or at least understandable, when a medic contracts ebola through treating someone in Africa with poor facilities and 2nd hand hazmat suits, but in the centre of the U states of A?

The fears of it being airborne seem a bit more realistic as each day passes, then we get biblical :)

Incredibly unlikely.

In a century of virus research nobody has ever observed a human virus change it's method of transmission.

Don't even joke about it Finners, it's not only a virtual death sentence its a horrible way to go and the effect on family, if they are lucky enough to not contract , must be horrendous.

true that Doc.

...but is this just another one in a long list of diseases like sars, pig flu, bird flu etc....

It's true but a bad way to go. Not easily transmitted until the late stages thank goodness!
It shouldn't have the same impact in the western world where ceremonies after death don't generally involve touching the deceased.
Now bird flu that's a pig of an entirely different colour and the plague that all virologists are really dreading

Perhaps, so what is preventing a decent strategy against each strain since 1976?

What are the chances that it mutates in a different primate before the outbreak? The reston outbreak was allegedly transmitted via the air ducts too

This is my point ! Something isn't right here ! America have the most advanced healthcare in the world yet it was still passed despite all recommended protocols adhered to.

Because nobody cared about a disease which only affected those in third world countries. Flu is more dangerous than Ebola in its current state.
