2025/26 Dwight McNeil

The lad works his socks off, but isn't good enough at the moment. He's clearly rusty.

Getting on his back isn't exactly going to help him play better, though, is it?

Yeah I’m not having he ‘works his socks off’ tbh. He makes it look like he’s running in quicksand right from the first whistle. Has he ever won a 50/50?

May as well play him at 10 tbh on the off chance he lashes a goal in.

….surely describes Dibling too.

Its seems fashionable to have right footed left wingers and left footed right wingers.
I disagree, because McNeil quite clearly will not use his right foot, at all. There's a difference between using a dominant foot over your weaker foot...

... and not using a weaker foot in 99.9% of circumstances, including controlling the ball, a short (few yards pass) or helping to reposition the body.

He is the most one-footed player I can remember watching play football at this level, and I ain't even talking about solely Everton players here.

If you watch him play, I'd describe it as awkward.

Agree hundred percent - Dibling has fantastic balance and can beat a man on the inside and outside. That’s what makes a successful inverted winger. Dwight cannot go on the outside when on the right and ends up running backwards rather than even attempting it. Playing him on the right is an act of cruelty. You can see he hates it and I think it’s fair to say most of us do too.

What do you think is going on in Moyes head?

I mean, its understandable to prove his fitness if hes getting him ready to sell in the window i guess...

Thought this for years. The good defensively shout makes me laugh. He just gets himself back in there only to contribute nothing.

I think he considers all the options and goes with the one that he thinks is safest / most reliable / likely to carry out team instructions. I reckon he looks at him and Dibling and thinks that - for that particular game - Dibling offers a bit more reward, but a lot more risk. I really hope that for the Burnley game he recalculates that risk-reward ratio tho as it will be different, won’t it?

….its not as complicated as that, he simply saw McNeil as the better option yesterday. To be fair, there’s probably a rizzla paper in it going off their performances this season.

Moyes was asked pre-match why he went with McNeil and he said he was one of our better players before injury and is proven at this level. Couldn’t disagree with that thinking but McNeil offered little so it might be Dibling gets a start next time. There is also the option of McNeil replacing Alcaraz and Dibling also starting.
