2025/26 Dwight McNeil

Should have sold him much earlier in the window, realising that he's nowhere near good enough and offers us nothing (which his recent dismal performances have confirmed). Everton once again dallied and delayed in the transfer window, seemingly only coming upon Tyrese George in the final days and then realising he plays the same position as McNeil. By only (seemingly) making McNeil available for transfer in the final days/hours/whatever, it caused something to go majorly wrong in the dying minutes and has now caused him to remain an Everton player with no guarantee he will be sold in the summer, and certainly for nowhere near the £20 million that was offered last night.

Had this have occurred a week ago, the issue could have been sorted, or he could have moved to somebody else instead. Instead, time ran out and he is back at Finch Farm today instead of being paraded as a Palace player.

Other clubs can make significant signings in January, Moyes was telling all and sundry back in December that money is available in January, Kinnear confirmed back in the summer that our PSR position is healthy, so why is the club constantly waiting until the final days to strengthen the squad?
I can't believe what's happened to Everton in January.

Rudderless. Poor results on pitch and dithering in the window as Europe remains an opportunity.

Both unacceptable, unless I'm missing something promising in the first halves Vs Leeds and Brighton.

It should help, and it’s probably something that needed saying.

I think as a whole, we forget these players are first and foremost, human beings, who suffer the same doubts, insecurities and fragility as the rest of us.

It might make those bellends think twice before shouting abuse the next time one of our players misplaces a pass.

You might be right, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it makes it worse. The second he has a bad game people will be messaging him and his missus. I know she did it to raise the awareness and to try and soften the comments that have been and will be coming their way, but I think she’s missed the mark and it’s more proof of just how far detached from real life these people are.

There will be people who read that who will have had similar happen to them when interviewing for jobs where they’re unemployed and desperate, yet McNeil will be walking back into training today to crack on in his privileged position. I’m not condoning the grief he’s been getting or will get, I just think there’s better ways for him to raise awareness of it and his missus moaning about it on instagram isn’t the way, IMO.

Precisely

Maintain there's still a good player in there who can contribute to our late season. Doesn't half irritate me that successive managers have tried and failed to put McNeil on the right, when we all know his strength is his delivery from the left.

With Grealish done for the season, I really do hope we see him on regain some form from the left; we'll need it if we aren't going to be very reliant on two 19 year olds in George and Dibling.
I don’t get the reverse wingers all the time. We have tall strikers who would/should thrive on crosses swinging away from the keeper

Feel sorry for him and his family. He is clearly not going to be the future here but he tries his best despite his limitations. Gets abuse most weeks from his own fans which goes beyond just criticism and then gets messed around by Palace. Refreshing to hear from his partner as to what it's like on deadline day. We hear the success stories but not the disappointments. Hope he can bounce back for us and give a strong end to the season.
Yeah here's er ' hoping '.

The arrogance, stagnation and performances from EFC from board to pitch have been very poor in Jan.

Why would McNeil offer anything now, beyond trying to give his agent some YouTube highlights.

Fancy doing this to his family so late in the window.

Moyes is gonna have to be at his contrary best to drag up standards for our last games. Nothing about our style of play, or Jan business suggests that's in the making... But then we get odd Utd / villa away result.

Very surprised by EFC in January. Poor

We spent a fair bit of time with him at Alder Hey before Christmas, pretty sure I put it on here but the lads an absolute diamond.

Out of all of them him and Ndiaye made a real effort to get down to our three year olds level and play with him. We had a good chat, he came across down to earth and a nice fella.

His Mrs went through some really really awful stuff and he was just expected/had to crack on in front of millions. If that was almost any other job you’d have been able to get compassionate.

Yes he’s incredibly privileged, and I’m sure he knows that. But it’s not how mental health works - surely we all remember what happened with Gary Speed?
