2025/26 Dwight McNeil

Let's be honest, if Everton hadn't waited until the final day to try and flog him this would have all been easily avoided. Absolute state of those 'experts' working on our recruitment. Dwight was in floods of tears last night by all account (his girlfriend said so on Instagram). Shame on all of those at Everton and Palace that caused this situation. He should have been out of the door as soon as Ndiaye came back from ACON, not in the final minutes of the transfer window.
If the Chelsea lads deal had fallen through last minute we would lambasting his sale earlier in the window.

I feel ashamed for words that have been said about him online

But mostly this is on whomever didn't get this done

I mean, she’s not wrong. It’s like someone saying to you today, right, we are moving your job to London, you have today and today only to sort everything out. So you do.

You get your Mrs and family on board, you sort out how to get there, where to go etc etc then all of a sudden you’re not going. I feel for him and his family.

However, he is still an Everton player and the way to get anyone/everyone back is to perform on the pitch. I know he’s had a lot going on off the pitch and that’s hard but he now needs to get his head down and work.

Feel sorry for the lad.
Let's not forget that not so long ago, he was the only creative spark and one of the few sources of goals, in thr worst Everton side in living memory.
Those 7 goals that season kept us up.
Clearly a confidence player, who probably needs a fresh start, but if he gets minutes, we get behind him, and lay off, some of the more embarrassing, on line comments.

Walk me through that again, just how is this Everton’s fault?

Should have sold him much earlier in the window, realising that he's nowhere near good enough and offers us nothing (which his recent dismal performances have confirmed). Everton once again dallied and delayed in the transfer window, seemingly only coming upon Tyrese George in the final days and then realising he plays the same position as McNeil. By only (seemingly) making McNeil available for transfer in the final days/hours/whatever, it caused something to go majorly wrong in the dying minutes and has now caused him to remain an Everton player with no guarantee he will be sold in the summer, and certainly for nowhere near the £20 million that was offered last night.

Had this have occurred a week ago, the issue could have been sorted, or he could have moved to somebody else instead. Instead, time ran out and he is back at Finch Farm today instead of being paraded as a Palace player.

Other clubs can make significant signings in January, Moyes was telling all and sundry back in December that money is available in January, Kinnear confirmed back in the summer that our PSR position is healthy, so why is the club constantly waiting until the final days to strengthen the squad?

Club sanctioned the sale when they had a bid and Palace pulled out because they didn’t sell Mateta as has been widely reported.

Why let that truth get in the way of other gripes though

Palace very poor behaviour all round

They already changed the bid from 20 up front, to a loan with an obligation. Then to pull out last minute and leave him high and dry is bad.

McNeil comes back to a club where he has no future, won’t play and knows he’s not wanted.

Likely he goes in summer but will have missed out on a fresh start
Yup, really poor. Not the first time, nor the last. Remember it happened to poor Ross Barkley too when Chelsea pulled the deal during his medical… must have been devastated to make 15m 6 months later.

DMc needs to get his head down and he’ll get opportunities. Our squad is threadbare. 20m was too good to turn down but he has a role to play.

I think he's saying why do it on the last day. Had it happened a few days ago then maybe it could've been rescued. Perhaps the lines went down in London.
Everton doing bits (or not) last minute again. I suppose we don't know if Dwight asked to leave or not
Exactly. The fans know he's not good enough. The manager put him in the team and he stunk the place out for the past month. The club is aware his contract expires in 18 months and his value will drop in the summer. He's backup at best when everybody is fully fit. The club should have been moving heaven and earth to get him out this month.
