Current Affairs Don't mention the War !

WW2 was the last conflict, in which most of the UK was in agreement of the need to fight.

Aside from a small number of conscientious objectors, and interned Mosleyites, the country did come together.

So much modern warfare is grey, with lot's of ambiguities, National Socialism and Japanese militarism, had to be defeated.

We should be proud, but not jingoistic, how we struggled as a nation between 1939-1945.

Being a supporter of a football club is different though. You're going the games, buying the merch etc, making a contribution.

Then if it’s not we, why should ‘we’ be concerned about the slave trade.....I’m with you, nothing to do with ‘we’.....

I see your point, but think you're advocating for a clear distinction when there's fog, and frankly, most people don't aren't confused about it.

Re Everton - if I say Everton were poor or we were poor in our play, we all understand.

Re the United States (my home and native country) - if I say "The US made foolish decisions in the Korean War" or "We made foolish decisions in the Korean War", we all understand (yes, I know it wasn't officially a war, but not worried about that rabbit hole today.)

So, is your preference to avoid the "we" a pet peeve or are you seeing and concerned about true difference in clarity?

Actually not trying to be rude in my inquiry, rather to genuinely understand.

Thx.

But this is the point, you seem very proud of past British actions and believe it has a future impact but refuse to accept the issues and faults of British actions and behaviours (of which there are many)

I accept and understand past failings due to British actions. But I believe far more good has come from actions undertaken by the British in the past than bad. I react against constant and one sided views deriding everything that Britain has ever done.....

Nobody is (historically) perfect
But
If it wasn't for the British - and by extension - the other english speaking nations
The Dutch would be speaking Spanish,
The Spanish would be speaking French,
The French would be speaking German
And the Germans would be speaking Russian
Not to mention we might have 'los Estados Unidos de America'

‘Constant and one sided’ - it’s just not true. The country waves its flag, has a movement towards Britain being great. Is it a constant and one sided bashing? Or is it just you bristle every time somewhere dares to speak ill of a place you by chance fell on to?

It is constant and one sided. If you can pull up ten pro Britain posts from anyone apart from me then I might just think again....

The problem you have here though is that by your own logic as you haven't lived through the war, you don't understand it at all, so everything you say is clearly rubbish.

It's not a simple issue though, because it has to encompass the entirety of history. I think the sensible view to take is to be immensely proud of the achievements of the UK and also be deeply embarrassed and ashamed by some of its actions. You can see that in microcosm in the war.
