The empirical test awaits. Will the party of Jefferson and Jackson do its duty?
edit: A lot of this is about who you run against the impeachee. If Big Dog had run against W., he'd have won. That was off the table. Same for Obama. Successful Dems are all about the charisma. W was charismatic as a saddle, but he got his two terms.
Yesterday's party of Jackson is today's GOP.
Yesterday's party of Lincoln is today's Dems.
Let's say he is impeached for legitimate things such as money laundering, perjury, and obstruction of justice...hypothetically and all...but the Senate fell short of conviction by a few votes.
Would the GOP really let him run for a second term?
