The empirical test awaits. Will the party of Jefferson and Jackson do its duty?

edit: A lot of this is about who you run against the impeachee. If Big Dog had run against W., he'd have won. That was off the table. Same for Obama. Successful Dems are all about the charisma. W was charismatic as a saddle, but he got his two terms.

Yesterday's party of Jackson is today's GOP.
Yesterday's party of Lincoln is today's Dems.

Let's say he is impeached for legitimate things such as money laundering, perjury, and obstruction of justice...hypothetically and all...but the Senate fell short of conviction by a few votes.

Would the GOP really let him run for a second term?

I mean, he's clearly talking about the allegation that Pence's office sought to meet with him and Rippon turned him down as "fake news" and "distracting," but I can see why that isn't an appealing enough hook when one is attempting to criticize the VP for wishing an athlete well and trying to refocus attention on the biggest moment of his life.

Why would he be telling Rippon that Rippon turning him down is fake news? How does that make sense?

Pence's office disputed Wednesday that any meeting request was ever extended. Thursday, Rippon's mom indicated that Rippon didn't outright refuse to meet Pence, just said he wanted to do it afterwards (if at all). USA Today claims the original reporting is true.

Regardless, it's a bizarre world when Pence's tweet is treated as somehow problematic.

Ok.... But Rippon would know all that as he's err Rippon. So why would he be telling him that that is fake news on Twitter?

Looks like the back of Darth Vader's head wearing a crap toupee.

Uncanny.

Pretty sure a guy that say this:

“You mean Mike Pence, the same Mike Pence that funded gay conversion therapy?”

and this

“If it were before my event, I would absolutely not go out of my way to meet somebody who I felt has gone out of their way to not only show that they aren’t a friend of a gay person but that they think that they’re sick,” Rippon told USA Today. “I wouldn’t go out of my way to meet somebody like that.”

Isn't keen on meeting Pence. Think his mom is kind of playing it down a bit just so they can move on and get on with it.

Option A: Pence is doing whatever you said (distraction/fake news refers only to Pence's views - how I took it)
Option B: Pence is referring to the recent stuff - USA today's allegation of a meeting request and denial, and the Pence staff statement on it (what I implied, though I might be shifting my position)

Option C: Pence is referring globally to everything Christine Brennan is talking about - her original interview about Pence and his views, her writings about Pence supporting gay conversion therapy, her claim that Pence tried to meet Rippon and was rebuffed.

I think it's Option C. As for why he'd be saying that to Rippon, why wouldn't he? I don't know whether it bothered him or not, but Rippon being invited to talk to the VP and turning him down is being reported everywhere, so if it is untrue, I can certainly understand why VP would label it fake news and reference it as a "distraction" for Rippon.

By morning Max Boot is going to be a country-over-party hero (joining others like Jenn Rubin) after years of being considered a total neocon nutjob by the left.

Can't really speak about that, just interesting to hear from an anti-Trump republican. They are out there, apparently.
