Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

I'm not sure I agree with "in the best interests of all." But my point was, as I suspect you know, that those most loudly advocating for government-led health coverage for all in the United States put very little effort into explaining how it could be done efficiently, justly and competently.
We are at an impasse if you do not agree a health care safety net is in the best interest of all.

With respect, you've repeatedly demonstrated disdain for and distrust in the ability of government. With that mindset, how likely then is any study (think tank, academic or otherwise) to convince you such is possible? If truly interested such studies do exist and there is more than a century of experience among western democracies to draw upon.

Trump will achieve his second term. The media will attack him incessantly, as will the Democrats, and it will bounce off him and sway fair minded people to his side......
I'm a central swing voter in New Zealand and I can honestly say that while I disliked both Hillary and Trump, the following behavior from Trump continually and the farce his administration has been from day dot has underlined that the man is not fit for office, and I imagine that many of those who voted him in as the lesser of two evils think likewise.

Whether Trump wins again depends on who and how the Democrats decide to run against him

If they go for another establishment candidate like Hilary and keep brow beating people who consider voting for Trump, then Trump will win again, if only as a way for his supporters to "stick it" to his detractors

If they run a less traditional candidate backed more by policy than rhetoric, whilst also extending an olive branch to middle America rather than talking down to them, then they should be able to win

You can't defeat populism and cult of personality with more status quo

You have to understand what you can offer that the populist candidate can't and how to sell that to the electorate in an attractive way

Agreed. The democrats need to rid themselves of a few bad apples and tell the Clinton's to go away for good. They also need to decide what direction they wish to go in. Find a candidate that speaks to the disillusioned lefties and potential voters and well the undecided.

This will also depend on what the GOP gets while he is in office. Like i said before if he becomes worse than he is and the GOP's main base don't accomplish what they want they may run someone against him to save face. Save the party too. He has changed it and not in a good way.

They cannot go 4 years and risk losing with this guy running very unpopular. Especially if he continues on the same path. Them accomplishing just about anything is like teeth pulling for their base even when they control the lot.

Don't forget their base and party is in several fractions who they have to play to every time they want to pass anything.

It's what caused healthcare to fail for them and what made their tax bill look awkward and amateurish.

But i guess its easier for them to say its all of the lefts fault and they are to blame for it even when they are the minority.

You're right to doubt the extent to which such things can sway me.

My issue has far more to do with what advocates truly care about than what Brookings says is plausible, or what another western democracy with different challenges did under different circumstances.

In other words, if I suddenly got the impression that the biggest proponents of universal health coverage were genuinely concerned with ensuring that it would be done responsibly and not with the intention to use half the country as a piggy bank for the project, I'd probably be far more receptive. Motivations matter, at least to me.

I think this is true. But who fits that mold? Booker? He might be too eccentric and think oppo on him would be amazing (albeit less so in an environment where porn star affairs and payoffs don't really register).

Warren would be a disaster, and I think Kamala Harris would be as well. I felt Biden was actually a formidable foe for Trump last time, not sure if he's got it in him at this point, though.

Fair points, but a) reliance on approval numbers don't necessarily translate into election-impacting sentiment anymore and b) there are some signs that Trump's numbers, as well as the Tax Bill approval, etc. are trending positive.

I think the issue is the left isn't giving most voters much to think about. They think Trump is a clown, sure, but lectures about income inequality, discrimination and why illegal immigration isn't so bad just isn't a winning message either.

Bernie Sanders looks like he will run again.

Insiders also suggest Biden might go.
