With the supreme court judge in and now the regressive tax cut in place, the republicians have no use for the stooge. Don't be shocked if they jettison him after the 2018 primaries or use a potential yes/no impeachment vote to control him. Fox news initally never wanted Trump in the 1st place and they won't start a war to divide the party. Sure the far right will be mad at their own party for a while but give Fox News 2 years and they'll be able to easily convince the nazi faction (not the brightest lot) that it was a Soros, Hillary, EPA, war on christmas plot to remove him.

The Republican base is the ultra wealthy and rural working class people. It's the weirdest marriage of people. They have duped rural America into thinking that they have their best interests at heart.

Fox News is on a full on lit anti Mueller campaign. It's angry and filled with lies. The state run Fox network is justifying Trump's firing of Mueller that seems to be looming as he gets closer and closer.

It's purely intuition, but I suspect it's because the wealthy vote for economic reasons, the the rural vote for social reasons.
Ultimately it boils down to the Civil Rights Act. That moment in time when Democrats said FU to their base and voted for equal rights. We are still struggling with it...as seen in Charlottesville and elsewhere.
Or the fear/dislike of those who are different in general, whether on national grounds, religious grounds, ethnic grounds...
