Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

So much for Trump's campaign promise of not touching Social Security or Medicare

If they genuinely cared about the deficit they wouldn't be doing tax cuts that didn't have a hope in hell of paying for themselves, at least we had a nominal surplus when Bush did his tax giveaway to the rich donors.

Wonder how this will play out in Rubio's home state of Florida...

Drives me nuts. SS and Medicare have nothing to do with the federal income taxes. They are not "entitlements".
It's a damn retirement and health insurance plan we pay into separately from income tax. Ticks me right off when folks blame SS/Medicare for the debt.

If I recall correctly, the most thorough medical exam was from John McCain---probably a necessity given his age, family history, and relative youth of the opposition

Really hoping after this current debacle that we start requiring candidates to disclose tax returns and undergo a physical/medical review by an independent physician.
I wouldn't mind requiring dementia screening above a certain age for candidates.

It will go through. The big money behind the GOP will make sure.
Yep, even the NY/NJ and California reps that will likely get punished by their constituents because of the SALT deduction elimination hiking their taxes seem to be making the bet that if they are voted out they will get a cushy job at a grateful donor's firm. Best we can probably hope for is there are some concessions like DACA bill or CHIP funding.

The GOP seem keen to lose all their remaining seats in California - voters approved legalization by 56% to 44%

Attorney General Jeff Sessions suggested in a press conference on Wedenesday that the Department of Justice is looking at changing Obama-era policies that allowed states to decide what to do about marijuana despite the drug remaining illegal under federal law, according to McClatchy DC.

Why it matters: This could have a huge impact on the 6 states and D.C. which will have legalized marijuana by January, 2018. Places that have already legalized marijuana and have seen the marijuana industry boom in their states could face particularly tricky legal situations.

Key quote: "In fact, we're looking at that very hard right now, we had a meeting yesterday and talked about it at some length. It's my view that the use of marijuana is detrimental, and we should not give encouragement in any way to it, and it represents a federal violation, which is in the law and is subject to being enforced."

Meanwhile, bipartisan groups of Senators and House members have been pushing for criminal justice reform bills, which would lower minimum mandatory sentences for non-violent drug crimes. A crackdown on drug crimes is not what they're looking for from Sessions.

Going after Marijuana would be ludicrous.

In Colorado, since legalisation, they've seen none of the things that opponents said would happen. Teenage use has remained the same, traffic accidents haven't gone up, drug-related arrests are down. Along with this, tax revenues are up.

I haven't smoked marijuana in about a decade nor do I have any interest in doing so, but I'd be strongly in favour of legalisation over here.

Also if you were a Democrat designing a "get out and vote" campaign for young voters who are notoriously unlikely to turn out in mid term elections then marijuana re-criminalization and eliminating the deduction for interest paid on student loans would seem to be gifts from on high.
