Actually a good article. I'm fully guilty. There is also a great chapter entitled "Us versus Them" about this topic in the new book "Behave", which is an accessible but scholarly work on the neurology/evolutionary basis/genetics of human behavior, by Robert Sapolsky.

He doesn't prefer anyone or anything beyond himself. He'd throw his own family under a bus if there were a benefit for him in doing so.

I know people don't like to throw the term 'mentally ill' at him, but he has such a severe case of egotism and outright narcissism that it really should be classed as a mental illness. He's not right in the head.
