The thing is it quite possible that the San Juan mayor mayor is doing a poor job or she could just be exhausted/overwhelmed - but even if either of those were the case it doesn't excuse Trump comments. He could have shown leadership by rising above things and just ensuring aid was gettting to those who desperately need it but of course he took what were mainly criticisms about process as personal attacks and had to punch back at her directly and then expand the insults into effectively calling all Puerto Ricans lazy.

I think the people of Puerto Rico are in a better position to know whether it is fake news or not if they don't have access to water/food/power/medicine/communications/shelter over 10 days after the hurricane struck.
That Trump is getting great marks I am sure will be a wonderful relief to those that currently lack the above items.

Also deeply worrying as how do you tell him bad news that he needs to hear? Unless you preface it by a bunch of compliments he just seems to dismiss anything that runs counter to his version of reality.
He can say that CNN is peddling fake news but what happens if he starts to disbelieve the military when they give stats like this?
He followed it up with this, the desperation for praise is really something even without the backdrop of Puerto Rico.
More supermarkets and gas stations being open will help considerably, people were spending a huge amount of time in line so will free them up to be able to do other cleanup. Phone lines working will help identify where issues still remain. Water and power still a concern, especially in a tropical climate with a vulnerable population.
