Hmmm

It's looking like the protest estimates continue to rise. LA up to 1 mil...DC well over 1 mil. Seattle now up to 175k.

Pretty amazing and historic. Protests large and small all over the country.

I think the most surpring one I saw besides some of the ones not on American soil was the one in Helena, Montana. 10000 protesters hit the streets in a very conservative and very sparsely populated state. Helena has less than 30k residents and the nearest decent sized city is Billings which is 3.5 hours away. Amazing really.

While these protests had been organized since the election, the turnout was far greater than expected. DC was expecting 200k as an example. Here in Seattle they expected 50k.

For me the estimates vs reality are 100% due to Trump staying in campaign mode since the election. I think a lot of folks that voted for him expected to see him become presidential once he won. Nope...he is who he is.

He and his people are now flat out lying to our faces...very dictatorship behavior. It will only fuel the fire for more protests and organization. We are only in the first days here! It's crazy and the stuff that is coming out tomorrow will continue.

A lawsuit is being filed about his conflicts of interest....among other things.

Gonna be a wild ride.

Oh and one more thing re: moving this thread.

While I can see the argument to move it, I also think this thread in particular is slightly different than say the Brexit thread.

For me I feel like beyond the debate...which did get ugly at times and is an unfortunate byproduct to political discussions...this thread served as an education into the American election process and all of it's nuances. Just my $.02.

I wanted to turn FinnFan into a snowflake, I won't lie.

Bigger picture thinking regarding the Right Wing movement...and the fallout of it all with regards to the popular vote not matching the results.

Fox News.

It's the mainstream right wing media source for everyone.

The other networks here even if reporting neutrally are viewed as liberal.

Fox gets massive ratings because they are the only ones doing a right wing theme...most of what they do is not news, but rather opinion based.

They created a massive bubble by doing so...brilliant at the end of it all. The other sources are left leaning and Fox tells you they are!

Fox has always stated they are 'fair and balanced', when in fact, they have never been that.

Their ratings are so high, because they are the only ones championing a right wing agenda. The more popular central and left sources are spread out over NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN (the Fox equivalent these days) and a few other places. Ultimately, it's come down to one choice for the right/central leaning person and at least 4 for the central/left person.

The right winger's enjoy one stage that can spread one singular message, whilst the others remain divided on many levels.

It's been about 15 years in the making...and frankly they aren't going away. This president has already showed them preferential treatment.

Interesting times.

Trumps' campaign and administration use of media and communications is a carbon copy of Putin's. Disinformation (now called alternative facts) fill up column inches and give opponents lots of amunition while his administration are able to push their agendas in the background almost without any criticism.

Clever but sadly to see.
