Talking of catcher in the rye I think it’s really illustrative of where we are that John Hinckley tried to assassinate Reagan to impress Jodie Foster but this whole situation is immediately assumed to to be democrat vs republican .

Same with the tosser who shot John Lennon.

You never know with these loony's. The Son of Sam? The next door neighbour's dog barked all night long, night after night, until it drove him completely insane and those barks turned into instructions from 'Satan', calling him 'The Son of Sam' and telling him to go out and cleanse the streets from the filth.

Now if he had just gone on the first night the dog started barking, banged on his neighbour's door and said: Shut that mongrel up! History would have been different.

I guess we'll just have to wait to see what the reasons were.

The fault lies with whoever wanted an outdoor rally like this, though. It’s as close to impossible as one can get to prevent someone getting a chance to shoot.

This time round Trump has been doing a lot of outdoor rallies in these types of places. Think it stems from two things.

1) In 2016 and 2020 he used more indoor venues but often refused to pay the local city for providing police for security and public safety.

2) A lot of his fundraising has gone to paying legal bills rather than campaigning and rural outdoor venues are cheaper to hire.

So ultimately Trump’s own character has, in more ways that one, lead to him being more vulnerable a target.

i mean probably because they believe in the democratic process , I think it’s appalling the choice Americans have on the ballot but advocating political assassination is beyond the pale , for most people .

The hitler stuff is mostly hyperbole , that isn’t to say a lot of people aren’t extremely concerned what the future holds and that might be extreme but wanna be fascist would probably be fair .

Last point if they issue supportive reasonable statements you’re critical , I’d imagine they’d be criticised if they said nothing so it’s a bit of a no win .
