One might hope it would encourage a pause in the falsehoods, vindictive narratives and so forth in campaigning. A toning down of rhetoric and a bit more of a respectful approach to opposition.

One might also hope it perhaps leads to a more mature and reflective debate on guns and gun violence.

Listen to that eyewitness statement again - he clearly says he saw the shooter crawling along the roof and then fire as the people below were trying to alert the cops. He wasn’t lying up there the whole time.

As we both know, it will all depend on the timescale between the shooter being noticed/identified by those on the ground, and how quickly he got his shots off.

We have to be incredibly careful to not take eyewitness accounts as gospel, yet. I heard one witness allude to seeing him, alerting the cops, and then five minutes.

Is that realistic? If it is, it's a gross failure. If the time is a lot less, it's less of a failure of procedure because there'll be ROE to abide by - you can't just shoot.

Obviously, the fact that the perpetrator has been able to get an assault rifle that close and onto an elevated position is going to be enough of a failure.
