The damning reflection is because trump is the good guy when you compare the two, from a non internet perspective. Trumps ridiculous build a wall doesn't look so ridiculous when biden relaxing the border has seen drug deaths significantly increase, or southern states literally ferrying coach loads of immigrants up north. That is just one example where things have got worse under biden than trump and although you can pull up good things under biden, these things do influence votes. Southern states would vote for tighter border control over looser as they have seen the effects of it over the last 4 years. Same as the good things under biden will reflect that where they are most prominent.
It is trendy to hate trump and maybe he is the bad guy but when it comes to politics and not popular opinion, it's been made easy for him. You are right the lack of decency on both sides of the pond, if trump wins it isn't because he is the better candidate , it's because the democrats have put biden up against him. I believe anyone would have beaten trump last time , it seemed that overall public opinion was so widespread , bigger increase in young voters etc, I think anyone other than biden would win this time as well.

Non internet perspectives incoming
Politics isn't about how much you like someone it is about results or potential results politically. Everyone affected by fentanyl after biden relaxed border control is more likely to vote for the tougher border control. People who are against the middle eastern involvement will vote against the person publicly backing it. It reminds me of when labour lost the last election and nobody could understand why , you vote for policies and results and trump has a few of them on his side whether you like it or not, you just have to hope biden has more over his 4 years to win.
