Traitor's idea of a patriot, too.

He's done literally nothing for his country his entire life and the MAGA people they interview lining up to see him can't think of anything specific to say when asked about what good his first term did so just gush about how he "loves his country".

I suppose it's all projection. His most fervent supporters come across as small, venal creatures who distrust and have zero empathy toward outsiders. In their Christianity-addled brains they're the 'good guys' and so these harmful traits have become virtues, and a politician who publicly encapsulates the same selfish negativity is hailed as the only patriotic one of the entire bunch.

Excellent post

Probably the most realistic take on what happens if Trump is convicted…no matter how much I might not like it

Think about it, though. Suppose they build a separate box to contain Trump that, in terms of creature comforts, is much better than what a federal prisoner gets.

It's still solitary, though, right? Isn't that his personal form of hell? No one to manipulate, no one to stroke his ego, no one to listen to him?

He's not the Unabomber, who by all accounts was happy as a clam doing math while in solitary for 23 hours a day in Supermax. It's everyone else that goes nuts.

Any thoughts on who will be Trumps vice president choice?
No one except a MAGA nutter with something to gain takes the job. From Trump's perspective, ideally they help shore up a state. Senators won't find it appealing if they're up for re-election, and they must hail from a state with a Republican governor. The Republicans can't risk a seat by handing a Democrat incumbency advantage.

Ted Budd could do with a national profile boost. Vance and Schmitt also fit the bill, though they do less work from an electoral vote perspective.

Any number of governors (other than Kemp) might take it. Many of them are term-limited, but most also still have time left on the clock because most gubernatorial elections occur in off-years. Burgum, Holcomb, Justice, Parson and Sununu are the only ones out after 2024. Parson probably isn't what Trump wants, Sununu is a Trump critic and Justice is running against Manchin. Youngkin would probably be the most attractive governor to Trump, but he may prefer to run against Warner for the Senate in 2026 over taking the warm bucket of spit. (That last is not exactly what Garner said about the vice-presidency.)
