Sen. Bernie Sanders will filibuster an override of President Donald Trump’s defense bill veto unless the Senate holds a vote on providing $2,000 direct payments to Americans.

“McConnell and the Senate want to expedite the override vote and I understand that. But I’m not going to allow that to happen unless there is a vote, no matter how long that takes, on the $2,000 direct payment,” Sanders said in an interview on Monday night. The Vermont independent can’t ultimately stop the veto override vote, but he can delay it until New Year’s Day and make things more difficult for the GOP.

Now Trump has decided to back Bernie Sanders' attempt to get the $2,000 direct payments, which is great but his statement that "the people have suffered enough" is such a slap on the face to Americans who just lost a week of unemployment benefits, or who will see their unemployment checks delayed, because of Trump's ineptitude and cruelty signing that bill a day later than he should have done so. It is all political theater for him even if when doing so he is ruining people's lives.

Goodness. The title of that painting has to be something along the lines of “Vomiting Americana onto Canvas”, because it doesn’t make sense in any other context. It’s Trump in full Revolutionary War regalia, holding an 18th century firearm in one hand, the 21st century American flag in the other while standing in front of the modern White House, with a bald eagle thrown in for good measure.
