There would be absolutely none. I’m not aware of any civil, much less criminal, penalties in place for that sort of thing in any states. I mean, half the goddamn country still thinks the virus isn’t real. I imagine some individual could conceivably file a lawsuit of some sort seeking damages. However, the end game of that would probably be that any judgement in that individual’s favor would be appealed, eventually making its way before a Supreme Court which Trump has now stacked entirely in his favor, and he would win.

Haven’t researched it, but read that NJ has some laws about knowingly infecting someone with a virus. I think several states have such statutes due to HIV. Don’t know if NJ is HIV specific or more broad.

True. I’d forgotten about those HIV laws. Still, even if you’re the reasonable type and accept that COVID is 100% real and dangerous, it’s much more difficult to prove any sort of liability for transmitting it to someone else. In most cases it’s really easy to narrow down if you were aware you had HIV and are at fault for giving it to someone else.
