Apologies if this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but the way in which he has behaved since the pandemic started - shaking hands, organizing mass gatherings, the opposition to masks even in his presence - suggests he thinks he cannot catch it.

Of course this is a bloke who was by his own admission a complete germophobe long before this pandemic hit, who was caught on TV throwing a wobbly because Mulvaney coughed in the same room as him. That he is now putting himself in harms way and getting away with it is deeply suspicious.

This is the most likely scenario.

I suspect the area has been thoroughly cleaned beforehand with mandatory hand washing etc. and only a small group with him for sustained periods.

Still, and it's a big still, his blasé attitude like @tsubaki mentioned is either stupidity, desire to appease the voters or he/they're confident he's safe.

Maybe a combination of both. Remember Johnson going around shaking hands with everyone, but he washed hands so it was safe - that didn't end well.

I can’t think of anything that would surprise me less than if it turned out his campaign hired a jet to fly Proud Boys across the country to carry out these acts of disorder.

What sucks though is that while you instantly see through his BS and just roll your eyes, there are millions of people who will just take him at his word and treat it as if it’s fact. Just like the damn caravan two years ago.

True. But for those of us who live in Trump heavy areas, it gets tiresome having to either constantly refute nonsense like that, or just let people sit around and wallow in their own stupidity.
