Ok i'll bite as I live in one of them. Belgium has a population of approximately 11m. 80% of the deaths from Covid took place in Brussels and the Flemish region. These two areas are some of the most densely populated in Europe. The majority of deaths were in care homes with the initial infections coming from several coach trips of elderly residents to northern Italy in the half term week in February, we are the crossroads of Europe with a lot of travel in and out every day by road and train, before we get to flights. We got hit hard and we got hit early. Since early March we have been on a real lockdown and, crazily, the situation is now very much under control.
We are not the richest, most powerful nation on earth there is absolute uproar at how ineffective our petty little right wing government was in the start. They aren't getting a free pass. The US is nothing like as densely populated as Flanders or Brussels, you are the richest and most powerful nation on earth and your executive has numerous powers that our extremely decentralised government(s) do not. You have the most powerful man in the world recommending people inject bleach and saying "it will go away". You have his press secretary asking if Covid 19 is so serious how did we survive the first 18. You have people protesting in support of a deadly virus and a president egging them on.
