TBF any death penalty debate held on GOT should require all participants to watch the excellent “Life and Death Row” series from the BBC a while back.
As the programme showed, the death penalty is a horrible punishment that has been inflicted on people who later turned out to be innocent, it’s been serially abused and no government around today could realistically be trusted with it.
However it’s also the case that what these people have done is often so horrific that normal talk of justice, rehabilitation etc doesn’t really apply - like Richard Cobb in the first episode, who with an accomplice robbed a petrol station, abducted the two female staff and a male customer, raped one of the women and then shot all three of them (only the bloke died, but he thought he’d killed all of them).
