One thing he has done, very minor but beneficial in a crucial time was increase unemployment benefit to 600$ for 4 months compared to 200$. Well Senate, House, and his office got it done. We could learn a bit or two from our former owners pre 1776 :) Even if the Prime Minister looks like a messy haired trump

Haha.

Yes understand that. All im asking is how would he have prevented the unemployment rate? It was inevitable. Similar to 2007-09:
"During the 2007–09 recession,3 the unemployment rate more than doubled. (See figure 1.) The rate increased by 5.3 percentage points since November 2007, peaking at 10.0 percent in October 2009, when more than 15 million people were unemployed. This peak marked the highest unemployment rate since the aftermath of the 1981–82 recession, when the rate exceeded 10 percent for 10 consecutive months, from September 1982 to June 1983."
wait, you might have some wiggle room arguing the odds about trumps responsibility for the high unemployment numbers though I would suggest spending the last 3.5 years union busting and privatizing, encouraging a paper thin economy built off tax breaks and stock market buybacks, definitely added to these numbers.
But are you seriously arguing that the unemployment numbers in 2008 were inevitable??
Your beloved GOP mismanaged the economy so badly it send economic shock waves around the world.
When you were 13, I was losing my job thanks to GOP economic ineptitude.
Now it's 2020 and again the GOP have built a paper thin economy on top of short cuts and quick fixes. So yea, Trump and GWB before him are both responsible in no small part for the unemployment numbers.
Take off the MAGA hat Grinch, this is not football, you dont have to follow your dads team.

Im not saying the 2008 numbers were inevitable. The ones this year was. I was just poting the numbers to have a comparison to unemployment

No size limit as far as I can tell
Interesting thought! Thye cant possibly force businesses on the brink to pay the wages though. A "Mom and Pop" shop would absolutely break quick. I wonder how it will turn out! Good shout tho!

Government is going pay one way or another though, if companies large & small drop sack their workers then not only will those workers require unemployment benefits but those ex workers will also stop spending causing a cascade of other job losses.

At least with the 80% some level of spending will likely continue and you’d assume that without having to do job applications/retraining of new employees etc once restrictions are lifted economy would presumably pick up quicker.

And that is just the economic benefits, not the health ones such as a lot of US workers health insurance is tied to their job, losing that in the middle of a pandemic seems problematic.

Very Very interesting! Could be something to look at but I feel the US is done with billing honestly. I think the 2.2 Trillion stimulus bill is the response

And how would you say he would have prevented unemployment?
He wants to take credit for things he had nothing to do with, he has to take criticism on the same basis. But you keep batting for him mate, don't worry about the thousands who will die, the healthcare staff who will have PTSD based on his childish lack of action

fair enough but there was nothing inevitable about these numbers. It's the fault of the government that job security is non existent in a time of crisis.
Trump found out about this in December last year, he had two months to work with the legislative branch to get out in front of this and put support structures in place so that businesses could better weather the storm.
The high unemployment figure is directly related to Trumps incompetent handling of this and his complete lack of planning and leadership.

Too little, too late sadly already mass unemployment claims on a scale we haven’t seen before.

Oh I saw this morning on Twitter! Insane numbers honestly. Mind numbing of how a Virus caused all of this. Not to mention the deaths happening. US is playing Minesweeper. Hoping to click a few correct squares but are only hitting the little bombs
