Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

You could say similar for US and UK generals with regards to folks Iraq and Syria and Afghanistan. Do they deserve to die? And what would be the UK response to having one of your upper level generals assassinated?

If one of ours were assassinated I would hope that we would react by levelling a decent part of whatever country did it tbh.....Trumps message to Iran and the wider area was very simple and incredibly effective...it doesn’t matter who you are, or where you are, if you kill ours your forfeit your life..,,,,that is what actually ultimately saves lives....

Yet when he had the Iranian General killed, what message do you think it gave to other countries and ‘rogue generals’.....

That there was a big stupid baby in charge who couldn't point out Iran on a map. He's a buffoon Pete, no matter how much you try and convince yourself he's playing a game of 4 dimensional chess, it's an inescapable fact. I think you see it too, but you just always have to forego any sort of sensible appraisal on these things so you can bat for your "team"

Wait, Trump had a message?

Let's be honest. It was just his whim at the time. There's no "strategy" per se

This is all a bunch of back and forth over nothing. Unfortunately, as Pete mentioned, Trump is just going to veto it, and support for the resolution isn’t even close to bipartisan enough to clear the two-thirds majority needed to override him. I can’t remember Congress ever passing any measures specifically designed to rein the President in like this, but it’s bizarre that the system allows for him to simply shoot it down all on his own. Of course, this is what you get when a huge portion of the President’s fellow party members just choose to be willing accomplices to his madness.

Actually, it's what creates terrorists and makes us unsafe abroad. (9/11 aside, our terrorists are, by and large, disaffected citizens with guns.)

That sort of deterrence thinking works well when the other side perceives that it has something to lose. It works less well when you are dealing with desperate opponents, and even less well when you start talking about the relatives of the "collateral damage" of such strikes.

Certainly indiscriminate killing does as you say, and there is no doubt that individuals will seek out others to harm. But the guy we were talking about had real power and clout to do major damage and large scale death. It’ll take a very stupid person to step back into those shoes......

He‘s not my team, and he is a buffoon. But every now and again he does something different to the ‘normal’ politicians and it just so happens to work. Our problems in the West are sometimes because we have people in our civil service and government who quite frankly no longer have experience of dealing with Thugs and Theocracies around the world. We are all nice people and the Putins of this world know exactly how to play us, but Trump is somewhat unstable and unpredictable and that makes others think twice...if that makes any sense....

there would be a degree of truth in that but fit the fact that he seems to be a sycophant when encountering any foreign ‘strongman ‘ and behave in an almost fan girl typemamner be that North Korea, Russia or even to a degree turkey .

so to break this down, you think the fact that Trump is not a civil servant puts him in a better position to deal with Putin?

What's he done that's worked?

He‘s put Iran back in its box, he’s gained commitments from NATO partners to increase Defence spending, he put tariffs on China’s technology dumping, he’s helped ensure that the USA is energy independent and he’s improved the economy....off the top of my head....

perhaps you can now tell me where he has failed.....
