I see they have tried to stop Trump from initiating any kind of military action against Iran without the express permission of the Senate. These Democrats and the half dozen Republicans are really shooting themselves in the foot. So if a USA vessel is attacked in the gulf, Trump can just sit back and say what would you like me to do....it won’t happen of course because he will veto it, but the democrats and the half dozen Republicans are just throwing votes away. I have no doubt that something will be manufactured to prove this very scenario.......

Pete per the War Powers Resolution acts of war have to be approved by the Congress.

Trump and Obama both pushed the boundaries of this, but killing a high level Iranian official was too far. That is a direct assault on a country as opposed to terrorist group associated with a government. Subtle but important difference.

There is a small sub group of senators (forgot what it is called) that can approve quick strike responses and special ops. They can even be briefed after the fact.
What was passed only prevents an all out war without congressional approval.
