Also, how come the Republicans can ignore a subpoena but they are asking if the whistleblower can be subpoenaed?

Isn't this all pointless because the Republicans won't let it happen regardless of evidence?
Depends what you mean by "pointless"

He won't be removed by the Senate, but he only won the last election by 80,000 votes split across 3 states. Seeing this stuff laid out clearly on national TV doesn't have to change all that many minds to kick him out in November next year.

I think it just reinforces what his base already believe - that he's "one of them" and the establishment are just trying to bring him down.

The vast majority of Trump supporters are incredibly thick, beyond the comprehension of us in the UK to be honest. Braindead zealots. They'll vote for him regardless.

Indeed, I think this will be amazingly a net positive for Trump... despite listening to Taylor's testimony now and absolutely laughing at how guilty he is.

Yeah, but his "base" aren't enough to get him elected. They weren't last time, they won't be this time.

He HAS to get additional votes. He'll actually need a lot MORE votes in 2020 than he got in 2016

That's my thinking too, isnt like 20 republicans will have to vote to impeach him.

House only needs a simple majority to impeach. Democrats have that without GOP votes.

The senate requires 66 votes to convict (and thus remove from office) on the impeachment. Currently only 47 Dems in the senate.

So just like Bill Clinton, the most likely outcome right now is he will be impeached, but stay in office.

The concern is that like the Mueller report, he (and his supporters) will claim vindication/exoneration and that there will truly be no remaining checks on him whatsoever.
