Couple of quick questions here - mostly because it's kinda rare these days to find conservatives/Republicans who you can have a sensible conversation with - online at least...
RE: the bold bit
Why is this? The US government spends ~$4,500 per person in the country on healthcare (~$1.5 trillion, or 8% of GDP), plus another $5,700 per capita of private spending (another $2.5T). In the UK we fund the NHS on about £2,000 ($2,500) per person (£129 billion/$167 billion) and cover every man woman and child in the country.
Doesn't seem like an unreasonable proposition to expect for everyone to be covered, whatever their need, when you look at the spending levels.
Second question is: Which candidate(s) on the Dem side would you vote for, and which wouldn't you? Would you vote for Trump ahead of any of them, or just abstain if one of the "no's" got the nomination?
Apologies if you've answered either of these previously.
It's not that it's not do able. It is. But its the approach and the amount off time it will take to push through.
There are several sticking blocks for me to convince moderate or even sensible conservatives. They are
Where will you take the funding from? Ultimately the money will have to be taken from a budget eleswhere.
Also what happens to the private insurers. The make billions so they could survive but the many thousands of people may not. The four big companies in the insurance business hire at.least 100,000 between them. Not forgetting the pharma companies and distributors in their groups.
These companies also pay thousands in donation to politicians on both sides remember. The minute you go after them they will get tough.
It would take longer than four years too. Focus too much on it just like Obama care the opponents will simply spend four years bashing it. Making it seem you are doing nothing. Obama carenhad its merits and I'll admit in principal it was an good idea and worked out for some. But it got resistance a lot of it especially at the state level. So ultimately it failed or came close to failing.
Another thing is perception. Many conservatives cannot get their head around the whole socialism thing. They have the antiquated belief that it's the red countries like Russia, china and NK. Many GOP followers are about money and profit. They are not all religious backwoods people or farmers. Go after their perceived bottom line and they wont deal with you.
I wont vote Trump again and I'm not sure who I would.
I would never vote for Sanders. I see his appeal. He comes across like he wants to give everything away but has no plans. Pretty much tells people what they want to hear. He would be better than Trump that's for sure.
Mayor pete as he has been called would be decent but I think he came in way too soon. In fact many of them did. This rush of blood thing to beat trump is slightly embarrasing. Way too many useless or too soon candidates.
Although I am not a fan of hers Warren is probably one of the better candidates. Simply because the faux socialist act she is pulling isnt fooling anyone. She further to the right than she let's on. I dont even believe her when she says she will go after banks etc.... she is playing the game nicely.
Pick biden and you will lose. Hes as bad and dithering as trump and trump will beat him in a debate although i suspect it will look like two old geezers going at it at a bus stop rambling nonsense.
