I don't think highly of Trump by no stretch of the imagination but getting dirt on your political opponents is normal. By any means. Trump just stupid to do it on the phone in such a way. I've no problem with that. There is much worse things he is doing on the working class and many presidents before him that calls for an overthrow never mind an impeachment.
A president asking a foreign leader to intervene is not normal.

They are all "at it" as you write - but this is the sitting President of the United States, using the authority, voice and power given to him by the citizens of the US (of which I am one), to force / coerce / cajole another country to provide dirt about a political rival and influence our internal election. The problem isn't Trump's behavior, because he's always acted this way - it's the fact that he is doing this while he is the President. That's the big no-no in this saga.

After he's out of office, he can write books, have a TV show and spout all kinds of crap, but that's AFTER he's out of office - he can have this one no more.
I made a mistake in this - I said "he can write books" - that's over-estimating his capabilities - he can have books written for him.

This is what causes the characterization of "cult-like" behavior on the part of Cheeto supporters.

As he said, he could shoot a guy in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose a single voter.

I just think the plight of the working class is a bigger travesty than him trying to get dirt on people from the office. Get him out in the next election. Try to get someone in that looks like he truly has the best intrest of the people like Sanders And see what he can do. If he doesn't live up to the persona it would time to take action in my opinion.

Trump is just sloppy. It's why I think the republicans get caught offside more than Andy Johnson cause that ideal lends itself to the unapologetically corrupt and not too intelligent.

No, that's too late. The damage that Trump has done, with the support of the GOP, needs to be addressed. Otherwise, regardless of who would win the election in 2020, the changes in political norms will be accepted and Congress' role as a branch of government be reduced to that of Venezuela's National Assembly.

I don’t think he is being sloppy, I just don’t think he sees anything wrong in asking a foreign power for something that he personally will benefit from - he is doing it this morning with China.

Ok I see your point atleast there is a stratagey you feel in getting him out now.

It is unlikely to get Trump out given the Senate. But there is a worthwhile goal in re-establishment of the previous norms that presidents should not use the power of their office to investigate their political rivals, and that applies just as much to Democrats as it does to Republicans.

Fair point but on the other hand if Sanders raised the minimum wage. cleared college and medical debt. Gave everyone government affordable healthcare etc. If he had to call in 'illegal' favours, put a few hits out on certain republicans etc... I'd throw a blind eye.

that's quite the hypothetical!
It's also worth remembering that in most western countries there is a political leader and a public figure head. i.e. prime minister/monarch or prime minister/president. In the US, the president is directly elected by the people to be both the political and moral leader of the country. The expectation of the job is and should be huge. Given the moral leadership aspect of the job, it's rare to have a president with huge popularity.
So when it comes to flaunting the law, Trump is damaging the political system but also the moral system. What he's doing is unprecedented and incredibly damaging to the long term function of the political and moral systems in this country.
