The money itself seems to be kinda weird - as I understand it Congress authorized $250 million but Ukraine now claim tthey are getting some extra and I haven’t seem any explanations for where that appeared from.
The Inspector General, a Trump appointee, saying that he believed the complaint was both urgent and credible and then the DNI blocking it would suggest that it isn’t a wild goose chase but I guess we’ll see.
It's entirely possible that they have seen they can do things with impunity because nobody has done anything so far. As such they decide to use the Ukraine (which I honestly don't understand why they are even involved with this as they hate Putin) to manufacture something/nothing that the Democratic party is OUTRAGED by.
There is an element of “frog in hot water” here. Forget the possible US aid/quid pro quo aspect for a moment - any other president who had made a call to a head of a foreign government and asked them to launch an investigation into a family member of a political rival would be roundly condemned on all sides. Just imagine Obama even hinting to say Japan in the run up to the election that Jarad Kushner’s dealings should be examined let alone a criminal investigation coordinated with his personal lawyer!
