Square footage and land mass have nothing to do with governance.
Each state in the US has a local government which is then overseen by an federal government. Each state has restrictive laws and laws some not so restrictive laws. Some can be different to.hownthe federal government sees it too. But ultimately if the party chosen to run the country ie majority and president they can cut off funding to each state.
It's not so free when you have two sets of governments looking down at you making local laws that could affect you and then federal laws.
His point was and he can correct me is that other countries are not as restrictive in some cases. It doesnt matter how big or small the actual land is.
