The way it’s going in the US, a civil war there wouldn’t surprise me, particularly with the election getting closer and closer. It feels deliberate in a way, I could be way off base here but it feels like race and gender are at the forefront there and people are at each other’s throats over both . Left, right, alt right, centrist, far left, social justice warriors, etc etc it’s a mess imo and it’s only going to get more tempers rising.

Never thought that he would be President, never but here we are.

Speaking as a Brit who's been living in America for several years, race relations, Trump, all the stuff you see on social media and on threads like this, I can tell you most Americans don't give a crap. Brits in the UK seem to get far more worked up about what's going on here for some reason. People here still get up and go to work every morning regardless of what Trump is saying on Twitter, kids still go to school, and the bars and pubs and restaurants are still full of people having a good time. That's what I see. People care more about what they're having for tea that night than what Trump has said or whatever the latest outrage is. And as for race relations, I've never seen racism here. I live in a place where there's lots of Spanish speaking immigrants, it's melting pot. Everyone gets on. One of my best mates is Muslim, guess who he supports? Yep, Trump lol

Where was your outrage when at least 2 of them were being anti-Semitic? Probably the same place you were last weekend when Panorama were uncovering the true extent of anti-Semitism in Labour. 2 of the congresswomen, who I doubt you or anyone in the UK had heard of 2 days ago, have a history of it - and that's Trump point. His tweet was directed at them because they're the most vocal about hating Israel, about wanting socialism for America. The question Trump posed in his tweet: "If you are not happy here (because there's not enough free stuff and it's too pro-Israel for you), then you can leave" is perfectly valid and lots of Americans would agree with it

Asking Americans to leave their own country because they disagree with you is simply stupid. That's not how Democracy works. You yourself have b*t*hed and moaned that people won't listen to you and don't agree with you.

One minute you want people to accept your opinions and beliefs and the next you agree with the racist wanting Americans of colour to leave because they disagree with him or have been critical.

And this is why I said what I did about Omar earlier. Because it enables this kind of horse crap. Generalizing the entire left as antisemitic because of the words of one congresswomen with very limited power and influence and saying it is equal to the President of the United States who has the support of the entire GOP spewing something badly racist. For the record after Omar's initial remarks the Democratic led house passed a resolution condemning antisemitism that was clearly a pointed criticism at Omar. They don't accept it and they haven't made excuses for her or been silent on the issue like the GOP have about Trump.

The difference is pretty simple mate: Trump is the leader of the Republican party. John Cusack (who I hadn't even heard about in years tbh) is pretty far away from leading the Democrats. Even Omar is probably about 250th in line. Steve King has been racist for years but no one went crazy saying the whole party was racist because he was in it. But when they elected as the nominee and then President someone who is badly racist? Yeah that changed the equation a little bit. So if the Democrats nominate someone who is antisemitic we can revisit this but until then it is another case of phony whataboutism designed to allow the President to save face among the Americans who want to support him and his racism but don't want to have to say it out loud.
