Well he’s got that spot on........

Diplomat says things in private, and is leaked by a blatant hard Brexiteer to a hard Brexiteer-supporting journo, and you dislike. Johnson insults politicians around the world in public and you want him as your prime minister. I've said before Pete, but your values do seem wholly malleable depending on whether your point of view is supported or not, which is rather worrying.

Indeed, lest it be forgot, Johnson had this to say about Trump "The only reason I wouldn't visit some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump," and has insulted both Obama and Bush before him, but that's fine and dandy because he's your Brexit loving man, whereas the ambassador in Washington is not. It's sad that a man of such experience can be so blind to this weakness.

it is genuinely amazing how much you hate this country, pete
“Taking back control”

And to think the Brexit gammon all went mental when Obama commented on it.

Funny how times change.
It’s alright, as long as you agree with them
Actual baby
It’s fine when he interferes in uk policy but heaven forbid Obama should say anything

Brexiteers will revel in the willy waving. However, it's the tiresome hypocrisy of it that's really boring and annoying.

Trump criticises how May has conducted the Brexit negotiations, and he’s right, in fact you all agree with Trump, oh until you realise you’re agreeing with Trump....hypocrisy anyone......

And it's not hypocrisy to laud Trump for his comments but go berserk at Obama commenting?

And fwiw, don't put words in other people's mouths mate. I don't have any love for Teresa May, but I'm not entirely convinced there were any other routes particularly available to her. There is NO flavour of Brexit (as is now abundantly clear) that would keep the 52% (or their various representatives in parliament) happy that would also be agreed to by the EU.

The difference of course is that Obama’s intervention was a deliberate attempt to affect an upcoming national vote. Trump is merely saying that May made a complete Horlicks out of the negotiation, a personal criticism...if you cannot understand the difference, fair enough....

Cool, so you'll have an equal problem with Farage appearing at Donald Trump rallies, right?

No, not at all. Many people are not happy the way the Brexit negotiations have been handled. Trump, like most Brexiteers is miffed because UK is still not out of EU. Many remainers are not happy because May took no cross party advice and followed the edicts of the Rees Mogg lot and the Irish bigots. Look! nobody is happy!

The biggest scandal i.m.o. is the "leaking" of confidential reports from an ambassador to his colleagues at the FCO. It breaks the trust of the ambassadorial system where the person can give his personal take on a situation, often those situations that have been kept out of public domaine for security resons.
The leak of the US communications is not the the result of an impulse of some peeved person, but a systematic interception and documentation over a period of time. Enemies of the state are responsible, they should be flushed out then locked away for a long time.
However, as we all know there is more likely to be an establishment cover-up which will result in somebody being promoted out of harms way.:dodgy:

Whilst obviously not on the same scale, you do wonder if Trump is so favourable towards Bradley Manning's leak of confidential US communications.

I fully agree with your comments regarding leaks and would like to see someone prosecuted for treason. There is too much of this going on. In respect of our Ambassador and his comments however, anyone of us on here could have written similar views or observations regarding Trump without ever leaving home. I was more upset about the lack of any real insight or interpretation from a man who is a supposed Ambassadorial expert and who gets well fed for providing comments of the bleeding obvious........

You have to presume that the 'juiciest' bits were what Oakenshott decided to publish. The bits that, what with Trump being as thin skinned as he was accused of being, would generate a response. The media is in the eyeballs business. We have to remind ourselves of that sometimes.
