The previous approach hasn’t really been overly successful hast it? The same could be said with other murderous organisation, too. Sometimes a difference approach is required.

The message this sends out to the rest of the world is clear - get a nuke (or better yet, an ICBM capable of reaching the US) and you'll be treated with respect irrespective of what you actually do.

I think showing that he can have some positive impact on a long-running feud will interest some, just as his hard-line stance with China will interest others.
Yeah, it’ll be of particular interest to those farmers going out of business due to his trade policies

Yeah. Well if you ignore the fact that he’s giving a murderous, dictatorial regime the one think it’s wanted for decades (international status and legitimacy) without getting any concessions in return.

I wonder if he'll allow NK to buy huge swathes of industry, sport, property and broadcasting within the USA in the same way that previous administrations have allowed other murderous dictatorial regimes to?

The pointiest stick has always wielded the most influence - from the playground to the largest empires the world has ever seen. To attribute that way of thinking solely to Trump ignores the entire history of human civilisation.

that is true, though when you claim your policy is to prevent your enemies getting the pointiest sticks I am not sure doing this makes any sense whatsoever

All of this North Korea friendship is great, but after Donald's second term in office - and I don't believe too much will change in the next five years - it'll just go back to how it was before he was President.
