Taken from reddit for those who seem to think this migrant crisis is new, that kids weren't actually detained and treated badly under Obama. There's loads more about it out there if you choose to look for it. And the Trump haters can moan about me mentioning Obama, of course, the "what about Obama" phrase is well worn and laughed at by his fanboys. But it's important to have all the facts before piling in, and the facts are this situation has been going on for ages. If it was as easy to solve as some people seem to think, other presidents would've solved it

Jesus fecking christ.

Your hero Trump could have stopped this. No one disputes ICE did this under Obama. He doesn't get a pass for carrying on.

But Fox or anyone else on the right pointing it out makes Trump look even more evil.

It's like oh look your hero Obama did it before me what do you say now?

We say stop it.

Carrying on something you complain you didn't start doesn't make it better it makes you look like a moron.

Instead Trump has taken it one step further. Trump seems proud of his work too. Deportations and the treatment of asylum seekers and well humans isn't something to be proud off if they are getting sick, separated from family and well dying...

This is more whataboutsim from the right as usual.

Do yourself a favor and go back 50 to 100 pages and you will see the people you are getting called and compared to brought all of this nonsense up too.

The tax cuts did - many economists said as much

An interesting piece here about it in the notoriously anti-Trump NY times:

A quote taken from that if you can't be bothered to click on the link:

Obama famously said the days of 3% growth were over. The US economy recorded 3.2% growth recently, growth countries in Europe could only dream of. To say that's all Obama's doing and that Trump doesn't deserve an ounce of credit just smacks of blind hate for the latter. Trump really could cure cancer and people like you would have a face like a slapped arse because it didn't happen on Obama's watch
Yeah, except that article doesn’t say a WORD about the effects of said tax cut.

It does spent a good deal of time talking about how the tax cut for most families was so small that they didn’t even notice it.

Also these “many economists” who reckon the tax cut had a major effect on the economy should learn to read a graph, and learn about what continuation of a trend is.

Oh and also, the characterisation of the Democrats’ branding of the tax cut is wrong. The focus was on the fact that 80%+ of the cut went to those in the top tiny percentage of wage earners.

And as for “Trump could cure cancer”... no, he couldn’t. He’d almost certainly have to read more than a single side of A4 to do it, which rules that out.

But if it was happening in equality under Obama than it is under Trump then it's still not right. So what is your point?

I am disappointed you didn't respond to my previous reply.

This is clearly in response to my comment about the POTUS being able to end his policy decision with a stroke of a pen. Let me be clear, even though I believe you to have understood the first time... the POTUS is directly responsible for the policy of child separation at the border that continues to this day. Literally babies taken from the arms of parents. Not for days. Not for two weeks. Months. Some cases more than a year.

He repeatedly claims he inherited this policy from Obama but, well, it is lie. (shocking!!)

No POTUS can unilaterally solve a broken immigration policy. The previous two POTUSes have supported comprehensive immigration reform. Why won't the House GOP leadership and now the current POTUS join them?

If Obama famously said this, you should quickly be able to find a direct source for the quotation. But he didn't so you won't.

There were several quarters of 3% or greater GDP growth under Obama.

The doofus former Sen. Phil Gramm not so long ago made the claim in a 4-quarter period GDP was over 3% under the current POTUS (actually revised to exactly 3%) and that it hadn't happened in 13 years. Well that would be true if you took that random 4-quarter period and compared it to calendar periods going back 13 years.

In fact, chosen from random starting point, GDP growth of 3% or higher over 4 quarters has been achieved more than once in recent years prior to the current POTUS. Starting Q2 2015 to Q2 2016 the GDP growth was 3.4%.

I see our rational centrist is engaging in rational centrism—not reading any posts that contradict his claims, engaging in whataboutism, and suggesting that 20 women who were all allegedly sexually assaulted by Trump are actually out to sell books. Wow.

As expected, you didn't read my post detailing the differences between Trump and previous administrations handling of immigrants. And as expected, you make the strawman argument that somehow folks here on this thread believe the crisis started with Trump: no one believes that. And as expected, you didn't address the difference in rhetoric between Trump and Obama regarding immigrants (hint: Trump is the only POTUS to use racist rhetoric when talking about immigrants).

@St. Domingo If your wife claims she was sexually assaulted, would you sympathize with her or would you suggest she is clamoring for attention and trying to sell a book?

I asked another poster here on GOT a similar question (since they thought Dr. Ford was lying as part of a conspiracy) and they self-destructed into the "how dare you bring my wife into this" nonsense.

Based on our interviews, officials at the border seem to be making no effort to release children to caregivers-- many have parents in the US -- rather than holding them for weeks in overcrowded cells at the border, incommunicado from their desperate loved ones. By holding and then transferring them down the line to ORR facilities, the government is turning children into pawns for immigration enforcement.

A second-grader we interviewed entered the room silently but burst into tears when we asked who she traveled with to the US. "My aunt," she said, with a keening cry. A bracelet on her wrist had the words "US parent" and a phone number written in permanent marker. We called the number on the spot and found out that no one had informed her desperate parents where she was being held. Some of the most emotional moments of our visit came witnessing children speak for the first time with their parents on an attorney's phone.

The conditions we saw this week match previous Human Rights Watch findings on the harms children face in Border Patrol detention. But now it's going on for weeks instead of days. Congress should take action -- not by approving more money for detention -- but by requiring immigration agencies to cease separating children from family members unless that's in the interest of the child, release and reunify children as soon as possible and cease using them as bait to arrest family members.

I'm very dissopointed with Trump. His hesitation and ultimate bottle job to nuke Iran for shooting down thier illegal spy robot shows his character. We need decisiveness.
