Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

If it wasn’t for the fact that there’s only one serious, intellectually honest party in US politics, there would be bipartisan articles of impeachment filed by close of business today.

So how significant is this likely to be or is it going to just be swept under the carpet?
Pelosi seems to be taking the line that impeachment wouldn't be politically advantageous, maybe because Bill Clinton's popularity soared when he was impeached, maybe because the longer Trump is in office, the more gains Dems will make in 2020.
Either way the old guard in charge of the Democratic party (and therefore the house of reps), seem reluctant to bring him down.
It'll be interesting to see if Mueller gets dragged in front of the committees in the house or senate.
My guess is that the Dems will drag this out over the next 18 months and go for death by 1,000 cuts. Trump and lots of his senators will limp to the end of their terms.

No point in impeaching, if he isn't removed from office. Senate wouldn't remove him.

What should happen: He should not be charged by a US Attorney while sitting as President. He should be impeached by the House and convicted by the Senate in the next 180 days. He then should be charged with various other federal and state crimes by appropriate prosecuting authorities. Pence would become President and lose the 2020 election.

What I think will happen: He will not be charged by a US Attorney while sitting as President. He won't be impeached (and thus not convicted). He will not win re-election. The Democrats (of which I am one) will nominate a more centrist candidate for president (I like Kamala Harris or John Hickenlooper) and they will win the next Presidential election narrowly (both popular vote and electoral college). Dems will hold the House - the Senate will be up for grabs as the Republicans will be defending 22 seats to the Democrats' 12.

Mrs. Pelosi's apparent line might make sense politically. This situation is about far more than politics, though, and the Dem Old Guard needs to understand or be made to understand.

How many hundreds of thousands or millions of American lives are ruined by our system of justice for relatively petty crimes while "great men" are allowed to subvert the very foundation of our government and our system of law?

Yea but there'd be a trial, and you can bet there'd be a whole lot turned up. Obstruction would pail in significance compared to his financial irregularities.
So much so that Republican senators would have to put their careers on the line to defend him.
So he might survive the Senate but he'd fail in his bid for re-election as would a significant amount of his senators.
And besides, it's congress's job to impeach him.

100% agree. I think Pelosi is playing politics and in a sense, she and Schumer are as guilty as the GOP of putting party ahead of country.
It's congress's job to make sure the executive branch is running correctly (I think).
I'm all for impeachment.

I’d like to see him impeached as much as the next person, but I also am not sure there’s a huge point when there is zero prospect of him being convicted in the Senate.

Then when he was “acquitted” in the senate, he gets to (with an element of justification) spout about how he was cleared of all charges, and was innocent all along.

There are ways to have oversight (the investigations that are already underway) without impeaching and opening up to another unwarranted media victory for Trump
