where did he say that? i only saw his comment concerned about the over-reliance on complex algorithms in tech, to the point where a trained professional may no longer quickly and manually step in as decisively as before. i see this too, just in different tech industries.

i'm not saying Trump has definite cause for concern on that point specifically regarding airplane tech, i'm saying it's an interesting wider point. and so it's proved as we've had a decent discussion on it.

Thing is they don't believe its to do with complex algorithms this time around.

It may be as simple as the updated version of their software having an issue or bug which obviously has devastating affects. But in IT terms it couple be a simple error on something minor causing the app to bug and affecting other parts of the system.

The new software they are using is not very different from their old version. The differences are mainly the new items added to the max planes and it is and will be used in all of their aircraft. The other fixes were for minor things they thought they could improve on like lights.

In the airline industry you cannot roll out new software without the governing bodies approving it as in no complex stuff without experts getting a look.

But i see your point and agree in general IT fails when it gets to complicated. I have seen this before in the Automation industry i am in.

Only time will tell what they find and hopefully they can fix it

here was an article a buddy showed me were they mention the software

Apollo was a great achievement i agree 100%

Also yes and no. Ruairi is right as are you as to what i was saying. Old tech exists still but it would be super expensive because NASA has moved on and everything has been upgraded since they used it last. As in older tech on the shelf or in a museum or store room. Not that they couldn't build working replicas but if they did i would imagine it would be more up to date and more expensive to fit.

They took a shot with the tech and facilities they had at the time and pulled of something spectacular using all of their data and science at the time.

If they were to repeat that they would be essentially starting over on a new program. Like i said NASA have moved on. Sure they have the equipment and old data but i doubt the would bring that tech back to life.

It's easier to start over using more modern techniques and tech. While using the same principles as back then.

If you see some of the equipment they have built and are testing its mind blowing. They open the facility 2 or 3 times a year for tours. There are always long lines.

NASA probably don't want to spend their precious funding going back to the moon and like i said if a President insisted of course they wouldn't say no.

The moons surface is unpredictable and creating a new craft and plan takes more charts and plotting. Then figuring out could the use the same approach as before with better tech or landing using a different method.

Now Trump's whole thing about old tech and old ways is not even an educated thought. Its an off the cuff statement how new things bad old things great. We have heard this before. If it was backed up with a scientist or NASA chief or even a TSA official or anyone in the industries he is bashing it would hold more weight.

But maybe he should have checked with someone first.
When talking about airplanes he said 'often old and simpler is far better'
I'm done with this D.

appreciate your posts, steve!

i'm also done, rauiri...it was worth it for the space talk.

Will have the perfect oppo material for ads...Tillis' own Washington Post op-ed
"It is my responsibility to be a steward of the Article I branch, to preserve the separation of powers and to curb the kind of executive overreach that Congress has allowed to fester for the better part of the past century. I stood by that principle during the Obama administration, and I stand by it now.

Conservatives rightfully cried foul when President Barack Obama used executive action to completely bypass Congress and unilaterally provide deferred action to undocumented adults who had knowingly violated the nation’s immigration laws. Some prominent Republicans went so far as to proclaim that Obama was acting more like an “emperor” or “king” than a president.

There is no intellectual honesty in now turning around and arguing that there’s an imaginary asterisk attached to executive overreach — that it’s acceptable for my party but not thy party."

Oh FFS he's coming to Ireland:

'Taoiseach Leo Varadkar met US President Donald Trump at the White House today where Mr Trump said he is planning to visit Ireland this year.

He said that he and the Taoiseach have become fast friends adding that Mr Varadkar is going through a complex time because of Brexit. Mr Trump would not comment on whether or not he supported Ireland's position on Brexit but he did say that he believes the Northern Ireland issue is one of the most complex parts of Brexit. The Taoiseach said he had a different view of Brexit to Mr Trump's (lol) and he said the US should do a trade deal with the EU. Mr Trump responded by saying the EU has been very unfair to the US on trade.'

Any chance yiz could stop him getting on the plane ?

Sorry mate, best chance is probably to make sure everyone tells Trump how much it rains in Ireland as he hates getting wet.
