Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

The reason the have not set foot on the moon since 74 is because of cost and presidents with different ideas simple as that.

Firstly its really expensive still to send a manned mission to space especially to the moon.

NASAs budgets keep changing and it can take them more than four years to complete the project and they would probably keep needing more funding.

Bush funded a program to replace the current shuttles but it ran over his term and because NASA couldnt say how much more it would cost the Obama admin scrapped it as they were only prepared to give them their usual funding.

Secondly the quipment at all of the facilities NASA uses to send rockets and shuttles into space has already moved on from the tech trump wants them to use. That includes their flight control.

They would be building with the latest tech.

Side note i worked on a project for a company in LA who make equipment for NASA. They have a big research facility were all of the latest ideas and tech is put to the test.

NASA has moved on from the moon. If a president insisted on going to the moon and funded it they would probably tell them it would cost a lot and would give it a go.

The other reason a coupke of guys i spoke with say is safety as they would have to start from scratch plotting and making a plan for where they can land and what type of craft they could use.

good post

his whole post points out that NASA cant use older technology any more

that specific older tech, no they can't as it's gone. if that's what you mean. it's prohibitively difficult n expensive to fly men to other planetary bodies. again, this amplifies the great achievement of the Apollo tech (which Russia and India still have, at least similarly so, China seem more hi-tech).

i might be missing your point here.

I've no idea.
Trump wants to use old technology in airplanes, that's daft, reckless and has no merit

where did he say that? i only saw his comment concerned about the over-reliance on complex algorithms in tech, to the point where a trained professional may no longer quickly and manually step in as decisively as before. i see this too, just in different tech industries.

i'm not saying Trump has definite cause for concern on that point specifically regarding airplane tech, i'm saying it's an interesting wider point. and so it's proved as we've had a decent discussion on it.

his post said they could, but it would be prohibitively difficult n expensive (if the aim is for manned moon missions). this only amplifies the Apollo achievement.

Apollo was a great achievement i agree 100%

Also yes and no. Ruairi is right as are you as to what i was saying. Old tech exists still but it would be super expensive because NASA has moved on and everything has been upgraded since they used it last. As in older tech on the shelf or in a museum or store room. Not that they couldn't build working replicas but if they did i would imagine it would be more up to date and more expensive to fit.

They took a shot with the tech and facilities they had at the time and pulled of something spectacular using all of their data and science at the time.

If they were to repeat that they would be essentially starting over on a new program. Like i said NASA have moved on. Sure they have the equipment and old data but i doubt the would bring that tech back to life.

It's easier to start over using more modern techniques and tech. While using the same principles as back then.

If you see some of the equipment they have built and are testing its mind blowing. They open the facility 2 or 3 times a year for tours. There are always long lines.

NASA probably don't want to spend their precious funding going back to the moon and like i said if a President insisted of course they wouldn't say no.

The moons surface is unpredictable and creating a new craft and plan takes more charts and plotting. Then figuring out could the use the same approach as before with better tech or landing using a different method.

Now Trump's whole thing about old tech and old ways is not even an educated thought. Its an off the cuff statement how new things bad old things great. We have heard this before. If it was backed up with a scientist or NASA chief or even a TSA official or anyone in the industries he is bashing it would hold more weight.

But maybe he should have checked with someone first.
