“Generous person” or not this seems like a remarkably lenient sentence given the guidelines were 19 years.

“Otherwise blameless life” apart from all the supporting murderous dictators, fraud, money laundering and lying. There are people serving far more than 4 years for smoking pot ffs.

It all has to do with money, race and status unfortunately. Wouldn’t want to stain their white collars

The disparity can be truly horrendous and tbf this judge has apparently frequently complained about mandatory minimum sentences in drug cases.

But Judge Ellis jailed the woman below longer for a white collar crime (and above what the prosecution was asking for) two years years ago and for what appears to be substantially less than Manafort was found guilty of so the inconsistency goes beyond even the usual money/race/status.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A former campaign treasurer for Virginia Senate Minority Leader Richard Saslaw has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for embezzling more than $650,000 in campaign funds.
Fifty-one-year-old Linda Diane Wallis of Fairfax pleaded guilty back in October in federal court in Alexandria to a charge of wire fraud conspiracy.Wallis, who also used the name Lynn Wallis Miller, wrote dozens of checks totaling $653,000 in 2013 and 2014 to two fake law firms she created to facilitate the fraud. Saslaw, a Democrat from Fairfax County, routinely raises nearly $500,000 annually, which he uses to help other Democrats.

The 56-month sentence imposed Friday by Judge T.S. Ellis III was even longer than the 51-month sentence sought by prosecutors. Court papers indicate Saslaw's office has not yet received any restitution.
