My girlfriend works in the NHS, and a good portion of her time is spent dealing with people who are in serious mental decline - dementia etc.

On an almost daily basis when she either hears Trump speaking or watches some of the clips, she reckons he’s displaying pretty classic signs of dementia or similar.

Genuinely wouldn’t surprise me. If you watch video of him from 5-10yrs back, it’s like watching a completely different person.

Of course - he can't change it, but the issue is how he chooses to interpret it and what the other branches of government let him get away with, as well as members of the Executive Branch who would be tasked with carrying out his orders. Presidents have done this for years, to the good or the bad, depending on your political point of view.

But as you point out, this is a rallying cry, others have said dog whistle, for the baser elements of the GOP.

I think it's pretty much accepted that Reagan was suffering the early symptoms during his second term.

For me the biggest thing is the comparison of Trump now to Trump 5-10yrs ago. I mean he's 72 (I think) and everyone loses a step, but the difference is really quite staggering.
