Who's tried to ban guns, I'm asking from an ignorant point of view because it's never looked likely of happening
Oh there's been an incredible amount of inaction, but that's down to the political reality in the country (there were some decent explanations on the last couple of pages of the shooting thread) rather than being because EVERY President is in favour of guns. There's a difference between not being able to do anything about it and actively thinking that the solution is to put armed guards in schools and houses of worship.

While it didn't go anywhere, Obama made attempts (I think after Sandy Hook) to bring in some gun control measures, but he was blocked by the Republicans in Congress.

Perhaps it is just me but I am way more worried about of guys that drive vans covered with stickers and those that post anti-semitic rants than I am of people in flipflops in a caravan over 1000 miles away.

Is it because they're 1000 miles away that you're not worried?

If that's not the case then how many of them would you have at your place should they manage to successfully cross the border ?

There are lots of illegal immigrants in our neighbourhood - I live in the California Bay Area. The vast majority are just trying to find a better life and are willing to work damn hard to achieve it.

I'm sure they do and it's a very difficult situation.

But they are 'illegal' immigrants. I'm not saying the law shouldn't be changed legs, or that what happens atm is right, but I don't really know enough about it to go into any more depth.

It's just that unfortunately, working hard/having a dream doesn't make it okay to be in a country illegally, even if it'd be nice if it did.

Anyway, Trump's a prat, in general, but all the furore bores me. Nothing will happen after this latest massacre, nothing ever does. That's not really Trump's fault, it's America's fault, as a country, operating with a constitution and a legal system that is 300 years old.

I’d much rather we had a revised immigration system - I personally have gone through the application process for various visas both for myself and others and know what administrative nightmare it is even when you have a company’s resources behind you.

They aren't the bogeyman that Fox and Trump would have you believe.

I certainly don't think some are. However I'm not naive enough to think there are some within the group who people should be concerned about.

However as I've stated in another thread, this 'caravan' should not be allowed to enter the US let alone any other country unchecked.

There are at least ten US embassies in Mexico alone people from this caravan can apply for asylum at without any fear of being separated from family/children. Why don't they attend here ?

What makes there dream/journey more important than the thousands of refugees/asylum seekers across the world currently being kept in UN camps and others across the world ?

I've got no issue with persons from other countries wanting to emigrate to other countries. Here in Australia much of those that work here illegally do so in fruit farms etc. People moan that they are taking Aussie jobs. Frankly that is bullshit, because if the thousands of welfare dependant people decided to work they could easily get a job on these farms. Australia has created a massive issue where families are being dependant on the state through numerous issues imposee by governments over time.

Back to the point though. I'd be in favour of more people being granted temporary visa whether work related or other to come to the US and be permitted to work legally. Which in turn creates more tax etc for the government and also reduces the fear people have of being deported.

However, I stand by my belief it must be don't legally. I don't agree with allowing people on mass to cross the border into a country unchecked because they claim to be law abiding people seeking a better opportunity.
