Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

I don't get this. There are literally tapes of Trump telling Cohen to set up a shell Corp to pay off women.

"Nothing matters anymore"
Truth isn’t truth and crimes aren’t crimes apparently either! Although how you plead guilty in court to something that isn’t a crime has me a bit flummoxed.

Meanwhile in the real legal world those charges that Cohen pled to carry up to 5 years in jail...

In order to implement the kind of reforms that the United States desperately needs, the Democrats need to win over Trump voters.

Trump's propriety is not an argument they can win.

They should try something like this instead: "Since 2017, the average cost of the cheapest healthcare premiums has increased by 32%. They will increase further still in 2019. Vote for us, and you will never have to pay for health insurance again"

I definitely think that is what is spooking Cohen, along with being upset Trump hasn’t supported him as he expected.

Meanwhile looks like Manafort might be getting a federal pardon...

New MAGA line will be praising tax cheats to own the libs.

Next man to get a presidential pardon ? Wonder what the odds will be on that

They won't win over Trumps base but they will win over alot of independents and moderate republicans. Combine this with turning out non voting Dems and independents and they should beat Trump handily.
What will be trickier is electing a progressive candidate who'll crack down on corruption and rebuild social structures.
I think, if the party (including Sanders) unite behind someone like Warren and get a movement going, they should beat trump and get a progressive in power.
A moderate wont create a movement.

Manafort odds certainly higher than Cohen!

Less than a day after Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to eight federal counts — ranging from tax evasion to campaign finance violations — Trump's longtime attorney and fixer is downplaying the possibility of a pardon. In fact, Cohen's own lawyer, Lanny Davis, says his client would outright reject one if it were granted.

"I know that Mr. Cohen would never accept a pardon from a man that he considers to be both corrupt and a dangerous person in the oval office," Davis tells NPR's Morning Edition, referring to the president later in the interview as a "criminal."

"And [Cohen] has flatly authorized me to say under no circumstances would he accept a pardon from Mr. Trump," Davis added, "who uses the pardon power in a way that no president in American history has ever used a pardon — to relieve people of guilt who committed crimes, who are political cronies of his."

lol

"By extreme coincidence," David continued, "Mr. Cohen's epiphany came just minutes after his initial arrest".

Speaking of pardons it looks like Trump will still dodge this bullet as the Republicans still control the house and impeachment is unlikely.

I don’t know the political mood in the US so perhaps someone can say if this democratic wave is real or just conjecture based on what they see and read. But from what I have read from afar (being from the UK) is it possible that Cohen can bring trump down ??

This would make a great movie by the way

I dunno, in the house all 435 seats are up for grabs, the dems need to hold what theyve got and flip 24 more. Seems doable given the current environment. This is all way too close to the midterms for the GOP. A DC trial for Manafort next month will keep this in the news cycle right up to the midterms.

Much the same time that Mr Trump decided his personal attorney of many years wasn’t a very good lawyer - odd coincidences all around...for some reason the words of Trump’s favourite poem come to mind “you knew I was a snake when you took me in” ;)

FWIW the Trump team has always seemed more nervous of Cohen flipping than they did about Manafort/Gates, probably because he can set off lots of investigations (including state ones that Trump can’t pardon) into Trump org, especially as it is now headed by his kids.

Trump was right to be panicked back in April, and since then we’ve all learned of more damaging facts that Cohen may substantiate. Cohen is at the intersection of at least three possibly disastrous legal stories.

First, Cohen was involved in the payment of hush money to silence multiple women with whom Trump allegedly had extra-marital affairs. The political fallout will depend on how many women and the circumstances of those payments. The criminal liability here concerns violation of campaign-finance rules as part of a deliberate attempt to conceal large amounts of money from voters. Blaming Cohen exclusively will be hard for Trump to pull off, given the tape we already have heard. If there is other evidence documenting Trump’s involvement, his legal problem worsens.

Second, Cohen has been Trump’s “fixer” and dealmaker for years. He was at the center of the failed Trump Tower project in Russia and likely would have been privy to other Russia-related transactions, if any, over years. Trump has insisted the special counsel not go into his personal finances. The chances that special counsel Robert S. Mueller III and his team are doing just that and will continue digging with Cohen as a guide has gone up dramatically.

Third, Cohen may have plenty of other information relating to Trump campaign contacts with Russia and to Trump’s own efforts to conceal them and disable the investigation. Goodness knows what recordings, documents and firsthand recollections he may have. What, for example, does he know about the Trump Tower meeting in June 2016? What, if anything, does he know about contacts that members of the Trump team had with Russia during the campaign and/or the transition? Given that the White House counsel Donald McGahn, who is not Trump’s personal lawyer, has spent 30 hours or more with the special counsel, it is not as if Cohen would be the only witness to possible impropriety. Cohen and McGahn may bolster one another’s accounts.

Cohen matters because he may have critical information relating to all three of these evolving stories. Moreover, he cannot be written off as someone peripherally related to Trump. He cannot be written off as a coffee boy or as someone who went in and out of Trump’s orbit in a matter of weeks. In short, Cohen’s plea is a crushing blow because he is the first cooperating witness that could implicate Trump directly in all three matters — the women and campaign money, Trump’s business dealings, and the Trump campaign’s Russia connections.
