You have on the one hand Trump - who was (and is) no friend of any of the Congressional GOP - and on the other hand you have their careers. If they leave Trump alone, after his lawyer has said he committed federal crimes and its blatant that he did it, then they will have to ignore whatever Mueller finds out as well (and whatever else Trump does from this point on). This is their get-out of that situation.

Manafort put pence on the ticket. Pence won’t come out well from this.

(and the fact that Bush Jr. was higher still - after systematically ignoring the entire intelligence community's warnings about Al-Qaeda, then using the ensuing disaster to shred the constitution, declare permanent war against a noun, and provoke the most costly and counter-productive foreign policy error since Vietnam against an unrelated third country - should be instructive)

Trump's preferred candidates have been sweeping the GOP primaries. The GOP can't even stop literal Confederates from winning high-income high-education states like Virginia.

His supporters (including even those on here, who should really know better) will be perfectly happy to chalk up today's verdicts as the further machinations of the Deep State.

Abandoning the Dear Leader at his time of need would be unforgivable, the absolute worst kind of treason. Never mind the threat to their careers - somebody would probably try to murder them.

I wouldn't expect anything to happen before November unless the polls appear to change, and I can't see what's happened today that would prompt that.

That is the thing though - they are being replaced by Trump's creatures. If you do not stop this, now, then your career as a Congressional Republican is over - either at the hands of Trump or at the hands of the Democrats.

Is he, though? The worst thing you can say about Pence is that he associated with Manafort (and as Trump said today, so did everyone in the GOP). Compared to someone actually said to have directed a couple of federal crimes, Pence is in no bother.

or you just surrender and kiss the ring, which they've been doing almost without exception for nearly two years now - and which is more or less the sole function of the Republican Party

I knew this would be something that was brought up by the immigrant hating section of this country to prove how dangerous illegal immigrants are but it's just such a joke. This story is unbelievably sad and that point shouldn't be ignored, but to use it as evidence that every immigrant is a bad person and to simultaneously ignore the fact that thousands of people are murdered in this country every year and most of them get 4 lines in a newspaper instead of national attention for a reason that you can probably figure out is seriously infuriating.

All it takes is one cooperating witness to say ‘he knew x or y was going on’
