100% of those who live in places like where I grew up.

here's a question, how big do you think his base is?

What do you mean by his base, mate? The Trumpians who support him no matter what?

No idea. I know there's a lot of hateful racist people about, tho'. Horrible attitudes. And I accept most of them who voted went for Trump as such people don't tend to vote blue.

Does that make Trump a racist President or does it make him a President who has racists as some of his supporters? It's an important distinction. @BirkenheadBlue mused more racists voted Trump than say Romney or McCain, and that pushed the needle enough in the decisive direction (Trump got 2-3m more than McCain/Romney).

We don't have enough solid info to really know if that's the case, there's just as good an argument that it was disillusioned yet non-racist blue-collar workers who made up that extra 2-3million.

Maybe giving the benefit of the doubt on the side of the good vibes is a plan?

If you think what's happening in Trump's America is similar to what was happening in any previous iteration of the GOP base, I don't know what I can tell you to change your mind. What's happening now is overt racism and hate. What Trump is saying, what he's doing, what he's tweeting - it all sounds like racism to me, mate, whereas in the past, the racists just latched onto whoever the non-Democrat was. Trump seems proud to have these people as his supporters.

Not exactly what I said, but we'll gloss over that... I would really appreciate just 1 yes/no answer from you (just yes/no would be great, so as to avoid us getting sidetracked):

Would you agree that Trump's campaign promises and campaign rhetoric would likely have been more appealing to racists (or "those with racially charged tendencies, as the media likes to put it) than that of Romney/McCain?

Yes.

Not at all sure why you keep saying this. Nearly 11 million more people voted in 2016 than in 2012, thus why despite 2 million more voting for Cheeto than Romney he actually received a lower overall percentage of the vote.

Because getting 2-3 million more people to vote for you than the last guy is pretty good any which way you wanna spin it. Clinton lost voters against Obama's total from 2012. That's pretty bad when you consider 11 million more people voted. If you wanna do it via %, then Clinton lost 3% of the vote vs Obama, whereas Trump lost only 1% vs Romney.

Playing with stats to make spurious agenda-driven points is an easy game to play. Bit pointless tho'. The stats say Clinton under-performed, Trump over-performed and more votes (5-6 million more) went to the independents. End result: Trump won. That's it, really. What point was it that you were trying to make based on these numbers?

Yes.

Who is playing with stats? Clearly the one who is saying getting more votes than the last guy despite a larger number of people voting and that getting a smaller percentage of the overall vote than the previous GOP candidate is to be described as "pretty good". Remember, this isn't about Clinton so bringing her up is just your means of distraction.

The point being made is the same as when I initially made it so I will repeat: Cheeto won the Electoral College vote with 46% of the overall vote, a percentage that was smaller than the previous GOP candidate (and almost identical to McCain) who got hammered in the Electoral College and a percentage that mirrors his overall approval rating (which is almost entirely driven by overwhelming support of one party and historic lows among the opposition party and Independents).

I have yet to see any serious political strategist argue the POTUS has expanded his base. If he cannot do so it will pose a major problem for his re-election.
