Unfortunately it's not a big jump to draw a connection between US foreign policy and the breakdown of governments in places like Honduras and El Salvador. The easiest solution to this is to help the central American countries. At the same time there should be a more tolerant asylum policy and resources should be focused on stopping criminals rather than everyone.
The whole criminal justice system is messed up both for citizens and non citizens alike. Manafort or Harvey Weinstein despite multiple felony charges are released on bail whilst some blue collar guy gets locked up for 6 months (losing their job, home and distressing their family) because they can’t get cash bail for a trivial charge.
